they are trained to harass older or reps they don't like out of the company,
thereby skirting employment laws…

this practice is easily accomplished because the lowly rep has no leverage or
recourse to halt the onslaught once it begins…

So true. It's disgusting. Managers who do this to reps deserve to be fired. They destroy the career and livelihood of reps. I know one who management continues to ignore despite their harassing, demeaning and spreading falsehoods about reps.
