Here is a serious reply OP.

Valeant is an incredibly unstable company to work for, it's not the typical pharma gig. I agree with some of the negative posters that it's highly likely a long leave would put you on the chopping block before or after.

6 weeks paid, the next 6 unpaid. Very bare bones & def something to think about if your growing your family. Best of luck

Part of the sarcasm stems from the fact that different states have different rules for maternity leave that the company has to follow.

    I recommend the following:

    1) Interview the best that you can. Then see if Valeant makes an offer. If not, your question is moot.

    2) While interviewing, be sure to ask questions - not about benefits, bonuses or wage, but about what is expected of the position, what the company is like, security of your job, etc. Determine if this job is right for you. If you are not happy with the answers, even if an offer is made, decline it. There are reasons to be concerned. Valeant has done sweeping lay-offs in the last 5 years. No position is safe. But overall, their benefits, provided you are a salaried employee in good standing, are decent.

    3) If Valeant makes an offer, then ask about all benefits. This includes, bonus, company holidays, floating holidays, sick time, health benefits, maternity leave, etc. Then and only then is the time to ask.

    4) Check the laws of the state you are in. Those laws may alter the answer to maternity leave.

    Good luck!

Fantastic advise, very well put and a nice corporate tinge to it! But the only problem is..in lieu of Valeant's acquisition strategy you might get chopped off even before any of that happens. But even if you get hired be aware that working for Valeant is like being in a concentration camp, you just don't know which day you will be sent to the gas chamber.

In all honesty, many people on this board are recent acquisitions to Valeant and we probably have no idea what's what or where to find it yet.

However, if your job quest is teetering on how much maternity leave you will get from a company, you are probably not a good candidate for any position. I have done a lot of interviews over the last 15 years and those who are driven most by time off work are not really interested in the time they should be working.

The government guarantees you certain time off through FMLA-so count on that. If you want more than your fair share of time off, stay home with the little rug rat. You 'll work harder there than here.

You are so correct. Working hard at Valeant and having them strip you of your individuality and firing you because of their greed to acquire is much better option than sitting at home or having time off..lol
