Looking to make the leap from PC. What's it looking like as far as opportunities before the reorg in Jan?

Be careful before you run away from PC to get over here. Very tentative foundation at this time. Need a stronger RD backing to make this viable long term. Palbaciclib needs to hit big or this whole gig may be down sized. Leadership has no real oncology pedigree and that has not helped. Schmandy and his group are really struggling to make this work. Marketing is off target in many ways.

    No choice but to run.

What is the struggle and how is marketing off target?

Only hear that oncology is the place to be.

And why is pedigree so important? The only negative on oncology is that they are snobs and elitist. Is the whole pedigree thing a sign of that.

Marketing has bumbled Xalkori from the start...struggling because PFE insists that folks who market vaccines, Viagra, Lipitor, you name it, are capable of marketing oncology products. No further from the truth. PFE is now on the throws of having an all PFE US oncology leadership team which is what they were shooting for ever since the 2003 take over of PHA. This will not work, guaranteed. Realigning this week with a number of layoffs is expected. Andy S has a call on Thursday...then things will hit on Friday I suspect. Stay tuned...

    Layoffs!!!

How and why? This was not in the cards and would mean a complete deception has occurred and a great fraud committed. The loss of trust in management would evaporate in an instant.

I don't believe layoffs are coming and wouldn't want anyone else to believe it.

I hope I am wrong but I am pretty sure a district in the East will loose 2 reps and go from 10 to 8. I am guessing they will not be the only one.

The east is a huge geographic area so this is extraordinarily vague and sounds like a guess not an informed opinion.

Not a guess...colleague got DBM to admit to a down size that could effect the rep. Andy S hinted at a "few changes in assignments" during one of his Town Hall sessions. Also he hinted that there would be "postings of opportunities" when the reorg takes place. Wont be long now.

Hint, transparency? It's all the same.

If you listened to Garry speak today on the town hall he was asked about layoffs. He an 2 other leaders were emphatic about no significant layoffs. When ever 3 people have to answer a question, you know they are wordsmithing an answer. They could not get to the mic quick enough to speak over each other about change in numbers. This was mostly directed to the NYC crowd...the rest of us were listening though.

A layoff is always significant if its you that gets laid off.

It's significant to your landlord, to your spouse, to your kids and to your hopes and dreams especially in this tough economy.

Not so great word smithing. I guess it's like putting lipstick on a pig though.

Assuming reps make a difference ( a big maybe ), why is oncology the place to be ? Access is so bad for most of the onc reps in Pfizer, that lunch with a doc is a good day. Protocols, algorithms and payers drive most treatment decisions. Please enlighten me.

What decisions aren't driven by payers. That cuts across all specialties. I hear that access is pretty bad though.
