Has anyone else heard that Pfizer is going to a car allowance of $350 a month by 2012 and no company cars?

No dumbass! Get to work and stop posting bullshit. No wait! Acually I heard you were getting cut. I also heard that if you went and purchased a gun, shot yourself, you would save us a bunch of paperwork. THAT rumor is the truth! So, GET ON IT!

The OP was asking a reasonable question. Why so much hostility?

Hey knucklehead, that totally was a reasonable question. With everything being cut and measures being taken to save $$$, the OP raises a great. How much longer can pharma continue to support our bloated salaries and perks, including company vehicles. Auto allowance is a huge cost saver that many companies are going to . Look for many changes in 2011 and beyond, and get used to the new Pfizer. Poster # 2, I would recommend anger management, but then again this job does cause hostility, frustration and anxiety.

Already started to phase out company car. First step is voluntary CRS reimbursement. Next it becomes mandatory to do CRS in a year or two. Cost shift going incrementally over to the reps. Pfizer doing slowly so most wont notice a big hit at once. People less likely to complain if done in steps. Ask other companies who start out with CRS. It will become mandatory in year or two. Next step is to charge reps for reprints and promo pieces.

Be ready to be TOLD what type of car you can and can not own to get F.A.V.R. Not IRS rules just company perception as to what Obama wants you to drive.

    NO: Bimmers, Jags, etc...

I for one am all for it... I'm 6'5" and half a difficult time squeezing into the pint-sized econo-box pieces of crap the company offers. I make a decent salary, as does my wife, why not let me pick whatever vehicle I need to do my job and transport my family/friends/stuff?

It's not exactly like the company cars are free anymore... if you want your spouse/gay lover to drive it, you'll be paying $165/month. Take the allowance & add $165 and chances are you can buy a decent vehicle that suits your needs. Added bonus is that you don't have to settle for some American-made piece of crap. Get a Japanese or German vehicle that wasn't built by some donut-eating rust-belt-dwelling slob who thinks it's funny to toss a random bolt or washer into a fender or dashboard in order to drive the future owner crazy.

You are a bitter, tall, fuck. Don't an expensive car, you'll be RIF'd soon and your tall ass will be stuck with a payment and only your wife's decent salary.

I thought the tall guy was funny. You're the one who sounds angry. What's your problem?

The car allowance plan already exists.....car has to be less than $40K. Sorry.

MSRP has to be below $40k (if it is used, the MSRP during that model year has to be below $40k), and the car has to be no older than 5 years old and have <120k miles. That would allow you to buy a lot of different vehicles, the upper end probably being entry-level BMW or Mercedes sedans, and most of the mid-size SUVs.

My suggestion woiuld be to find a 1 or 2 year old certified used car that comes with a warranty. You'll save a ton on depreciation, and after 3-4 years you can do the same drill again (sooner if you choose). Aside from assessing your needs (size/options/driving dynamics) you'll want to look into safety ratings, maintenance costs, resale values, etc. For a lot of people (including a couple of reps in my district who'v sought my advice), this is a daunting task. On the other hand, I actually enjoy the process. The thing I like about it is control. I'd much rather pay some out of pocket and get what I want/need, versus paying some out of pocket ($165 a month!) and get stuck with something that doesn't enable me to use the car for anything aside from transporting Pfizer samples (and even that is difficult given the size of this year's choices...).

Sure the company is shifting costs on to our backs, and it sets them up better if they decide to can a couple thousand of us (no rep car inventory to dispose of). Just the changing reality, I suggest you all figure out how you're going to handle it.

Car has to be less than 40K, under 5 years old, can't be a convertible.
Sign up the spouses car you would have anyway and then drive a used junker for work. When the boss rides with you, mine is in the shop!

Tall guy here. Gee, you sure are hostile! Perhaps you've been laid off and been unable to find suitable employment? I'm sorry to hear about that. And it obviously wasn't Pfizer that let you go, because we've never used the term "RIF'd", so I would venture to guess you were let go from another company and have nothing better to do with your time than troll other boards and spew your bile. That's a real shame.

Your time might be better spent trying to find another job, or improving your skills/education in order to be more competitive in today's tough job market. Oh, and thanks about your concern about my job security and a potential car payment. Um, well, if I were to be laid off from Pfizer, I'd have to get a car to drive to interviews and to my new job, so I would imagine I'd be better off already having the car (and the payment) than having to purchase one while unemployed (and potentially making financing such a purchase more challenging). Sure, I could pay cash for a vehicle, but right now I'm trying to stay liquid. Cash is king right now, and I'm trying to keep my stacks intact. Thanks again for your concern! Despite your outward vitriol and bitterness I can tell that you still care about me, and that makes me feel special.

In any event, I hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Or, if you're Jewish, I hope Hanukkah went well. Good day sir!

And then you r*****s wonder why managers have favorite reps and others they try to get fired.

Keep lying to your company and your boss if you want, but please keep your mouth shut when layoff time rolls around. You deserve what you get.

Got a big fat boss. Get a Prius or a Civic or Focus. You'll make money off the program with mileage and low cost plus its fun to watch the big guy end the day early because he's sick of being stuck in the car.

I'm the bitter one? Read what you posted. Picking on the American worker calling them donut eating slobs. My father built cars in Detroit for 30 years. He NEVER produced a product he wasn't proud of. We always drove American cars assembled in the US.
Just because you push pills for Pfizer doesn't mean you're better than anyone else. Get that straight.

I'm glad we have a contract with Ford. They make outstanding products. Sure they've made mistakes, but now they're producing outstanding cars. What if everyone stopped supporting Pfizer because of our recent trouble (2.3B fine ring a bell) where would we be? Where would you be?

Also, I've been with Pfizer for 10 years. I've lost alot of friends to a Reduction in the sales force or RIF. You can call it what you want, I'll call it what it is.

Merry Christmas to you, and God Bless America.
