R&D had its initial layoffs and now just the best of the best remain. We are now the best and most efficient R&D in the industry (second to none). Valeant has realized our talents and now is giving us their support. The FDA submissions are coming fast and furious. The competition is toast.

Sure, right. I can list 20 of the "best" R&D employees who've left in the past weeks and I know more who are leaving soon. Terrible environment and people see zero future.

Why do you think the best would stay at a company that does not value what they do?

I love it when pearson writes a message like this to pretend things are not a disaster at valeant...get out and get out fast everyone...

Either the OP is being sarcastic or his smoking some serious crack! You could at least share. By the way asshat, if R&D is so great where are the new pharma projects? New lenses? New solutions? New anything? Yeah R&D has people - standing around doing nothing. That's really moving onward & upward.

Best PhDs in the business. Taking the almost FDA approved pharma and getting approvals. Simply the best from the best.

Check the pipeline before the take over. Same promises.

Lots of action makes R&D mgt look real busy.

Looking busy is all that B+L R&D has left. Bla bla Bla in meeting after meeting and nothing gets done. No approvals just Bla Bla Bla. The rest that are left are potted plants for when there are tours of the company. Nothing more.

Aww dude - this is great. And spot on too. Keep up the good work. Potted plants, I love it. You must work the same place I do.

Potted plants. Lol !!! You got it.

But you better keep them under control, they can spread like weeds. Then you need to get busy pruning and spraying again.

Although many got laid off it is a pretty easy job in R&D. Management does not understand R&D so have to put in a lot less time than use to. Not too bad to make good money waiting for the next layoff and then get a good severance.

Not a bad gig. As long as you have no goals other than to make money and take it easy. Looking for work though as my aspirations go a little beyond paying bills and trying to look busy.

You can describe B+L R&D as a few idiots left.

Old managers/directors that have been there for years. No new leadership. Just a bunch of old flunkies.

Valeant hates R&D and will spend as little on it as possible. Why work in R&D at B+L if Valeant has no respect for it and will not pay to maintain it.

Only those that could leave have left. The ones that are left are the bottom of the barrel not the creme de la creme.

It would take hiring umpa-lumpas and building a chocolate fountain to revitalize this puppy. No chocolates left. Just everlasting gob stoppers.

    I like this thread !

    Potted plants
    Flunkies
    Umpa Lumpas
    Gobstoppers

    Some more:
    Chickenheads
    Boneheads

But it was always this way. Biggest mistake Valeant have made is not following their own philosophy and dumping this permanently clueless and inept department.

What is Valeant/B+L "Researching" or "Developing" currently? They are not, unless it is undercover or in secret. Pearson doesn't believe in R&D - said so from the beginning and has said it again with Allergan (too fat with R&D).

You have to have people to do R&D - where are the Formulator's ? The Polymer Chemists? etc. Most were let go. Ultra/Zeus is here because of the very people who were cast out that worked on this for years to make it happen.

Who's left to work on projects now? The people who are left at the "R&D" site mostly work on Maintenance of Business, Quality Control, and Validations. Valeant is going to buy technology, not develop it and never research it.

The people who are left still in R&D are stuck, not crap workers. Unlike the upper echelon of B+L, people are vested in Rochester and can't just up and go unless they are forced to.

The real question is when is the next round of layoffs going to happen because it will.

Not one mention of the pharma business in this article and only a couple regarding R&D. What "mood" in the hallway? There is hardly anyone around to have a "mood" and the "mood" that is prevalent hardly what you call happy. The only $ figure mentioned is in regards to the additional manufacturing lines, none stated for R&D. Oh yes, and those wonderful solar panels were talked about too.

Where is this revitalization? Has there been any hiring besides consultants yet?

    Keep passing the kool-aid.

The only R&D Valeant invests in is through McKinsey. And the purpose of this R&D is figuring out who they are going to fire next.
