Novartis It is the most expensive, least effective IT group in the industry; it mostly runs at the pleasure of the CIO RJ who is a master at keeping his team looking efficient and progressive by coming up with IT overhauls every few years and collecting massive bonuses along the way.

No responsible healthcare company in this day & age is investing one penny in data centers - this is throwing good money after bad; IT vendors can take over data centers using their leased infrastructure for pennies on the dollar

Probably good news, however is 35 million alot of money? Seems like it would not be a very big dept.

If you read between the lines of the Star Telegram story they're doing it for the tax breaks, prob since their 2011 prop tax break required them to add 500 jobs. We've shed that since then.

Another amusing note: the story says in May we laid off approx 200 "support staff". ST is buying all their bullshit.

Imagine that, creeps at NVS lying to government to get a tax break. I guess this isn't covered by "values and behaviors". Does this qualify as theft or fraud?

aren't we just telling ourselves sweet little lies?

that is simply an outcome of the system, which is, in its present form, "americano market capitalism".

Not so much angry as disgusted with greedy individuals lying to get corporate Welfare. The millions of dollars fleeced from tax payers could have been used to help a legitimate sincere business rather than a bunch of cheats. The last thing this world needs is yet another taker. Please let me know how the dirty scheme fits in with the "values And behaviors". There are people that go to bed hungry and NVS hacks are taking tax payer $. I would like for the CEO explain himself on this one. Just because others do wrong does not make NVS wrong doing OK. This company has no standards and will eventually implode. When there are no standards to live up to, bad things happen.

    the company has standards.

    >= 27% profit margin, or bad things happen.

you should transform that disgusted energy towards the following corporation:

    NVS actually helps heal people.

    that other corp "programs" people.

You are correct. Some Novartis drugs do help heal some people. However, producing something useful for society does not justify making insincere deals that hose tax payers. Novartis got its reward for the medicine with profits that are often high due to patents granted by the United States and other countries. Novartis thought they were treated unfairly when courts in India did not enforce patents. So, why would this company feel justified in making a bogus deal to gain a tax advantage. Also, according to your line of reasoning, some one like AL Capone would get a pass for all the violence and murders that he was responsible for simply because of his generousity toward soup kitchens and orphanages. When it comes to honesy and integrity there are no degrees. Either you are or you are NOT. Choosing to wrong simply because you can get away with it demonstrates a complete lack of character. Also, the falsification of data for a clinical trial in Japan cast doubt on all of your clinical studies - even those that were done by the book. FYI, this week there were more arrests in Japan over the falsification of clinical data that was used to promote a NVS drug. BTW, this is a criminal case. The publication of this work in medical journals have since been retracted. The careers of medical researchers involved have been ruined and all of there previous work is now suspect. Please do check for your self. Clinical studies sponsored by this company will be viewed with suspicion and will get extra scrutiny.
All of the inappropriate activities that have come to light are BAD for business. The CEO of this company needs to clean up this mess.

Cite me an example of a living person or corporation who is 100% honest 100% of the time.

If you're part of a homo sapien system (be it a Society, a Corporation, a Nation, a Monarchy or a Sport's Team) you're selected to perform a role. How well you can internalize, modify, live with, exploit or otherwise negotiate emotionally with said role is your personal journey.

If you want to win, identify the role, know the outputs said role expects and game them or embrace them or be happy with them or use them until you grow past them. It's not hard. Mostly it's Sociopaths who realize this, but there's no inherent reason that you have to be (it's just more common given their internal mind-set).

Now, should it be this way? Maybe not.

What can be done about it? Build new socio-economic-political system to replace the current operating system, which is clearly rigged in favor of those with capital.

I do no hold this company or any other company or person to a standard of perfection. I have come to expect a certain amount of sleeze especially when money and power are involved. Some of us decide to walk away from it. However when it comes to clinical trials, I do not expect data to be falsified. Scientific and medical misconduct is about as serious as it gets. Aside from being criminal, fasifying clinical trial results will cause irreversible damage to credibility and s reputation. That is why some brilliant medical careers were ended overy this. There is nothing more devastating and humiliating than having to retract a paper from a peer reviewed journal. The damage to NVS for its role is already done and u can bet your competitors will use it against u.
This company has some very deep rooted problems. The problems will no be resolved until some one with integrity and a backbone confronts them head on. Making excuses for what has been going on will only enable the corruption.

NVS employees were not victims of an economic system. They were victims of their own greed, arrogance, and lack of concern for patients that they intended to mislead with the bogus clinical results.
The debacles in Japan and many other countries goes way beyond the pale.
Good luck to any honest employee that tries to do the right thing.

the problems will not be resolved until the system changes.
until then, corporate science as usual:

although, novartis is fairly tame when compared to the MOMCOM:
