What will happen to the Enbrel reps once it goes off patent?

Will the IBU reps only promote Prolia to the specialists once Enbrel looses it's patent? Will they lay off the Prolia reps and just keep the IBU reps and let them promote Prolia? What are your thoughts?

 

It is difficult to say. They have been making mistakes for years. It appears that at this point, cuts will have to be made to give the false picture that we are making more money each year. It's all about EPS.

 

Is there any news of any company planning a generic? We've always heard it was too difficult to make and, thus would be too expensive. Who knows.

 

I would not suggest Generic, as there is already more than enough market competition. Amgen is not making a whole heap of money, as they settled with Wyeth (buyout) that pretty much gave the majority to Wyeth (now Pfizer).

Yup, that's what you hear on the corporate tour. Molecular weight, the complex process, cost, all bunch of crap. China produces etanercept dirt cheap. As the first biologic to go off patent, we'll see how quickly a generic hits the market.

 

Yes, I agree, don't think this is something China is prepared for so I think all the reps that promote Enbrel will be okay! So interesting..................this will be the first biologic going off patent an we also have the first biologic thats being introduced to primary care...........let's hope Enbrel fairs better that what's happened so far with Prolia!
