Also consolidation with Pfizer/J & J consumer health JV product lines (such as in Lititz, PA) will drive mass RIFs: the only thing temporarily slowing down the Lititz layoffs is the legal sanction preventing immediate plant shutdown due to the FDA Consent decree currently in effect for the consumer division of J & J (which has lateral impact on the Pfizer CH business due to shared lines, processes, systems & personnel

Scuttlebutt is Merck may be looking to buy Pfizer's CH assets/business components on the cheap ... Merck means nasty layoffs with low packages

    Is Merck harsher than Pfizer?

Merck is trying to sell consumer health, last I heard. Packages weren't too bad.

Pfizer, Merck, JnJ, are all looking to do some type of swap/sell with CH BUs - right now its a BU-go-round: when the music stops, about 17,500 jobs will have to eliminated between these three players - expect Jnj CH people to get hit hardest since they are the least competent and best-compensated among the lot

As a long-time Pfizer-ite & former Merck-er, I can definitely say that Merck fields the lowest paid employees - so when it comes down to a COGS (cost-of-goods-sold) and RPE (revenue-per-employee analyses, Merck wins hands-down. J & J by comparison is not even in the ballpark.

Prediction: Post-merger(s) Merck CH keeps the most people, Pfizer CH cuts at least 45% staff, and J & J loses 75%+ of their employee pool

PFE people toured Merck facilities last month, and put in a bid.

Why would PFE be buying Merck's consumer division, when they are always trying/threatening to get rid of their own?

Strategy of making CH biggest in industry or getting rid of it - hence the conflicting reports
