Whenever you see huge restructurings and reclassifications for a major corporation, the first thing that should come to mind is whether a company is about to break itself up entirely. This is what we cannot help but wonder about Pfizer Inc. (PFE) after the company announced on Monday that it is restructuring into three business segments with the coming changes to be implemented in January of 2014.

It is very common for companies to acquire their way into dominance. You just have to wonder about how much value was really created when they go down a path of breaking up the company to unlock all that value after the fact.

Also the word is that St. Louis and La Jolla will be disposed of or shuttered.

What about Terre Haute and Groton?

Groton was discussed, but that will take several years. TH was not discussed. Only STL and LJ are on the immediate list.

Wow... I can't believe how Hank, Jeff, & Ian have decimated this company, and the obscene compensation they recieved in return.

But the foundation was put there by Hank's predecessor. If he wasnt consumed by being #1, he wouldve directed smarter hires at high level positions here, and much smarter R&D strategies.

Yes, legacy Pfizer's M.O. is to take all the credit, displace all the blame. You see that playing out in vaccines-IS all the time. Makes it interesting when Pfizer v. Pfizer butts heads.

IS is ex-Wyeth now and the vaccine concept is also ex-Wyeth. I say ex-Wyeth is fighting ex-Wyeth...

IS is predominantly legacy Pfizer and most of the vaccine Jerks at the field level are Pfizer. Watch the sparks fly when these two meet and you have quit a show!

Dude, this is free enterprise in action. Our American model is to continually funnel money to the rich and powerful regardless of how well or badly they perform. Every Republican would tell you what a righteous and beautiful thing that is.

Can you say financial engineering once again. Ian and Frank continue their grand plan. Once the split occurs and the generic division and oncology are dealt with it wouldn't surprise if Pfizer the pharmaceutical arm is actually sold. This would make Ian, Frank and all the other henchmen a ton of money.

Classic, the moronic IS DBM in my city sends a success story to ELT every time my hospital places an order for outpatient pediatric clinics. what a group of blowhards.

It's called CYA. Vaccine reps do the same thing, but after your success story they convert your sh8t to direct buy in and around the hospital and send in their own success story DM-RD-VP to ELT so ELT gets the same message, on the same account twice in one week.
