What is Pfizer going to do with retiree health insurance? Any guesses?

My guess would be continue to provide it for a few years depending on how the business does while increasing the cost to the retiree and spouse.

It's a no-brainer. Once these healthcare exchanges are up and running fairly smoothly all Pfizer retirees will be given a stipend and told to buy their own insurance in the exchanges. I'll be laughing my ass off watching all those Republican hard-ass Pfizer retirees having to buy their own Obamacare insurance because corporate America dumped them. Pretty damn funny!

Yes, and we retirees will be laughing about how the younger people working will be paying so much more for their insurance to insure the many masses (and you know who is populating out-of-control). compared to what we had to pay. It is called "socialism" get it???

Why do these young people today have such disrespect and ill will toward those older than them?
I guess they were not raised right.

The "stipend" is actually already in place as Pfizer has in effect a plan that limits their exposure for long term coverage and caps the amount for each retiree. This guy can't read this document because he obviously doesn't work for Pfizer. The plan is not a bad compromise as they could have simply dumped future retirees but they didn't. (at least not yet)
The "old folks hater" will continue on his Cobra plan since he has no job and is too old to stay on his Moms' insurance even though he still lives with her. Bet she would like to get this moocher "dumped" from her house so she could party like its 1999!

The disrespect started when the "greatest generation" retired and turned into the "greediest generation". Don't bother to deny it. Pre-baby boomer retirees enjoy defined pensions (up to 80% of their salary), cheap retiree healthcare coverage ($100 a month or less), Medicare coverage (for which they've only paid for one-third of), generous social security (that they may not have paid for) plus the many tax breaks retirees get. I'm amazed how much disposable income retirees have in my area. And then they have the nerve to keep voting Republican which has completely screwed the working population who are supporting their comfortable lifestyle. Oh yeah, smart people are bitter about all this.

It's nothing to do with socialism. Oh wait, in America if you're not a rabid Conservative ideologue you're immediately labeled as a socialist.

First of all: social security did not begin until the mid 1930's. Retirees (and those close to) have disposable income because they did not live beyond their means, constantly purchase gadgets (as in tech), constantly dine out, have huge student loans, use credit cards as if they were going out of style, etc. etc. etc. You can figure it out. People saved and it is called "compounding." Medicare was enacted with Johnson (Democrat) so take a long good look at that deduction on your W2. The problem with the population in the U.S. today is that everyone wants what the other guy has. You sound jealous like the rest of them; choke on it.

First, by returning value to Pfizer, we were rewarded. Ever see what the benefits are for the fast growth tech companies now? Living your life as a victim isn't our problem.

Generous Social Security? Pfizer retires' never get back what they paid into SS.

Is this the usual Cafe Pharma (Employee?) that does the political rants? Remember VOCs, the non pharma political zealot who spread his make believe view here?

IBM dumps their retirees at the end of this year. Writing on the wall. Wall St. Journal today.

So much for all of this Corporate America stuff; get a cash business.

IBM isn't dumping their retirees at the end of the year. Dumping implies the retirees are being abandoned. IBM will now pay for the cost of Medicare Advantage plans. Will this hurt retirees financially? Probably not. Out of pocket costs won't change

They are being put into the new healthcare "exchanges" and once one company does it I predict a domino effect; just watch.
