Trust me on this that there will be another round of layoffs in November of this year due to Intuniv going generic and the MDD indication not going through...there is more of an emphasis of these other divisions right now so get your resumes ready again

The conference call said NO LAYOFFS and that they were not banking on the MDD indication. Intuniv going Generic is no surprise to anyone nor is it a huge impact on the current bonus. Which means its not a huge money maker for the company. Vyvanse is getting new indications and is only 6-7 years in. I think we are all fine for at least another 2 years.

You can THINK all that you want..
Flemming cares about the bottom line and thats all... Ask the 400 plus RM employees that Shire put on the street. He didnt even sell the division- wrote it off as a loss to salvage earnings.

I not saying that the business logic was wrong- just the way that it was handled. Beware- there is no longer any loyalty -you could be dropped without the blink off an eye, regardless of your history. But in the meantine, the stock price will continue to rise, so enjoy. But remember- you may be the next to decrease the bottom line. How much selling has to be done with a mature product? A contract company can drop coupons, at a much lower cost.

Just be prepared- and realize you are now only a #.

You idiot! They always will say "No Layoffs" until they kick your ass out the door...those of us in the industry know this and have seen it happen multiple times. I don't trust anyone or anything but myself. I did hear that this is true though but like I said..."don't trust anyone!"

A mature product in a generic marketplace requires ALOT of selling. Coupons are going away. Vyvanse will have to be SOLD. Contract reps can not do that. If they wanted contract reps, why are they reevaluating everyones salary and giving raises?

A mature product sells itself...it does not need to be sold...coupons are redemmed at an 8% national rate so they aren't even utilized as much as you think...and if the raises are given for 9 months until the layoffs in November it is only pennies compared to what they will save when they laoff a percentage of the sales force...

Mark my words on this and know that you were warned

A Mature product is something that has been out for over 10 years. Vyvanse is a fairly new product by Pharmaceutical standards. Generic would be utilized at a much greater rate if reps were not in the field. Especially with out any head to head studies showing superiority. Its a daily conversation and reminders about Vyvanse, two domains, ect that keeps it's market sharing growing.

This is very sadly true. Just look at the facts, stretch goals, raises and new performance model/competencies is all meant to streamline the layoff process so that apples are being compared to apples. I have seen this way to many times before with big pharma. The conference call was to make sure reps don't lose focus and start their job search before end of the school year and back to school season when the company needs us the most. Count how many times your RD tells you to "stay focused" and "avoid derailers" and you will see the truth. Believe it or not, your choice. Bary your head in the sand if you must, but not before you dust off your resume.

You are right on with this...they kept too many reps last time. My territory makes no sense, it could easily be merged with any neighboring territory, and neither territory would suffer. I can't complain too much, I've had many good years here, but sadly, I think this gravy train is going to be coming to an end.

The Adult Focus territories will be the first to go. Perry already said it was a one year experiment to grow the market amongst Adult heavy primary care offices. If Shire was serious about growing the adult business they would have restructured territories into Pediatric/Adolo Only and Adult Only Offices. Or Primary care and Specialists.

Reps in territories with low volume compared to the region/nation will be next on the list. It's clear several territories were not broken down correctly. You have some with low volume and/or low number of targets and some with the amount of volume and targets as 2-3 other territories combined. Can one rep really call on 500+ targets effectively? I have seen some with as many as 800+.

Lastly you can expect any territory with a declining or flat market versus previous year to be gone. If your market is not growing, there is no need for a rep.

Why do you think the new HR policies are going into place? Pay attention to the changes

This thread is completely correct. I have been through this twice and things are getting ready. Just remember how Concerta reps went away a few years before the product actually went generic. 1) They moved their good reps into other divisions, 2) they had a round of layoffs, 3) they hired a contract company to send out coupons...come on people it is going to happen at the end of this year which will be "Phase 2" since there was already 1 round of layoffs...after this round some of you may make it till 2015-2016 but after that there is no need to continue to promote a $1.5 billion dollar product that is flat

The ol' "Reminder Message"! That's exactly why there will be more cuts. Vyvanse marketing in pitiful. The brand has been penetrated deeply. They will keep reducing!

Shire has become like every other PHARMA company. Used to, there were no layoffs, but now, every year and sooner layoffs occur. I'm not saying that cuts don't need to be made, but the culture of Old Shire is gone. I've been with Shire for 13 years now. I got laid off twice in the last two years.....this time it stuck. I still think Shire is a great company, but don't confuse it with the Shire of yesterday. It just isn't. Layoffs will happen again. Just try not to be fooled that you're worth much to the mother ship.......you're expendiple. The day after you're let go will be the last time that Shire thinks about you. So, don't be too loyal to turn down other opportunities if they come about.

After 13 years at Shire you'e finally seeing how the real world operates. You were like a milkfed veal for far too long and it will probably hurt you until you get some diverse experience and may i say "toughen up" The old Shire is not sustainable in fact it when on longer than it should have. The saying goes, you either change or get changed. Wake up. And further more, no one has said anything about layoffs nor is there any planning for such. If want total job security go work for the government and be happy with you $60 grand and 6 weeks vacation.

Don't confuse my post with not knowing how the real world operates. Most likely, I trained you at some point in my career. Yes, I was spoiled to be with the company for 13 years, but don't confuse that with not understanding the need to change and having a need to "wake up". I was simply stating to not be so in love with your PHARMA job that you bypass other opportunities in other industries. As smart as you seem, you should know that if you can sell, you can sell in any industry. Shire hasn't been a black mark on my career with regards to pigeon holing myself into a certain skill set. Thank you for the advice that you so freely gave. Keep up the good work.
