Dr Craig Granowitz is a real messed up. He has never practiced medicine....worked all his professional career at Schering Plough....Screwed up professional affairs at Schering and Merck....Hates Merck....thinks he is always right....lacks emotional IQ....treats us like shit.

Question to Ken Frasier, Adam Schechter and the Merck Board of Directors.

WHY DO WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH SUCH A BULLY WHO ADDS NO VALUE TO THE COMPANY INTERNALLY NOR EXTERNALLY.

having come from another dept (mc&s) i can tell you that bullying is a well developed career skill at merck and one of the most effective ways to advance. Its part of what makes our culture so special. People who are bullies get promoted and take their ass kissing biddies with them. Its how its always been and probably will be till we take our last gasp.

There must be zero tolerance for such abuses. This is going to become a risk issue if it is not resolved promptly.

I work with him and consensus building is not in his vocabulary. He is beyond difficult and narcissistic. You just cannot approach him. Its all about his agenda with total disregard to compliance. A 360 evaluation will reveal the collateral damage his abusing behavior is having on the company.

A complete disaster in the making.

Report it this to the office of ethics and the ombudsman, and encourage everyone who feels the same way in his group. There is power in numbers and if Merck this there is risk to the company (e.g. facing law suits), they may be more willing to take action...

Here we go again....get over the Schering merger will you! As far as Granowitz, I think you see this in any males that are 5'2" or less and who have taken so many steriods that their testicles are GONE.

This post brought to you by a citizen of Fantasy Island! The Omsbudsman is the biggest joke going. Their purpose is to gather all internal knowledge of wrongdoing and help the accused discredit all accusers/those with knowledge. I wouldn't call them for anything.

My perspective is most physicians that come to work for Merck directly from residency programs or from a private practice is they cannot hack the private sector, or like running their own business, or whatever. Or they don't get along with their physician colleagues very well. Same reasons why some docs want to remain independent while some work for hospital or managed care owned clinics. I doubt many simply fell in love at first sight with drug companies. They make good money hiding amongst us. We use them to parade around saying we have physicians working for us. It's mutual prostitution.

So true. Just look at Rich Murray. He has been hiding amongst us and living the life of Riley for the last 15 years.

Look at all the short, narcistic managers at Merck. That's all we have left!

He many colleagues have been burned by the short, insecure pathetic manager? Too many to count.

It's well known both inside and out that Granowitz destroyed medical affairs at Schering. It's also painfully evident that after failed launch after failed launch medical affairs isn't being resourced to support launches as it did pre-Granowitz. Adam runs around wondering why things aren't working out all the while GMA is in rebellion. He was told and did nothing. Granowitz cuts budgets, Adam is awed by the clarity, USMLT is amazed by the conviction, Denise A Williams has a tingle run up her leg because USMA is finally cut, Timney is re-aligning looking to replace upcoming losses and the customers give us the middle finger because there's an absence of science and meaningful clinical benefits discernible through detail aids, MMFs and sample drops. Adam has to know. Adam should know!! Don't know how it's being managed up but at some point Adam will have to answer for the failures all the while being told and knowing that Granowitz gave him short term savings in exchange for poor long term growth.
Also, R Hartz will not bail you out nor get you where you need to be. He can however serve as a fall guy, hmmmmm. Your other option is to really, really, really, really, really grow AP. Good luck.

At Merck we are entering the stage of madness. For Craig it is all about his ego, Quid Pro Quo tied to the commercial return for the product teams and taking no personal risks. This is in direct conflict with internal policies, including the three corporate integrity agreement signed by Merck with the Department of Justice.

How can we continue to operate with a thug who choices to use his position power to bully us into doing things that the company has agreed not to do? Shall we speed dial the Philadelphia branch of DOJ.

Craig wants us to take the individually risk challenge to change they system and yes, will readily throw us under the bus. Truly a disgusting person to deal with. Lets throw this SOB under the bus since he is creating all this risk for the company.

Oh how I long for our smaller days with Dr. James P Hoffman. No bullying just fact. and a little humor to boot.

. Only way to confront this bully is to stand up to him in public forums and expose him. He cannot be reasoned with. He knows the key stakeholders and how the system can be gamed.

It sounds like he's perfect for Merck.

He'll talk behind your back to your peers to generate doubt about your abilities if you do that. Given the culture Merck now, your peers won't care what is happening to you - they're more interested in saving their own skin. it's a sad state of affairs at Mother Merck. The culture is akin to playground antics.

Dr. Hoffman knew his place. He would do his job and faded away for the marketing people to go on stage and do their silly shows. He was more fun in reviewing the PIs at meetings and then enjoyed cocktail drinks with later in the evening. I always thought he was like a mad scientist wth a dry sense of humor. It became boring when Merck hired younger physicians right out of residency to attend meetings as our medical experts.
