    We Sing!!

    "Rock! Rock! Till You Drop"

Hold onto your hat, hold onto your heart
Ready, get set to tear this place apart
Don't need a ticket, only place in town
That'll take you up to heaven and never bring you down
    Anything goes! Anything goes!

Women to the left, Women to the right
There to entertain and take you thru the night
So grab a little heat and come along with me
'Cause your mama don't mind what your mama don't see
    Anything goes! Anything goes!

    Rock! Rock! till you drop
    Rock! Rock! never stop
    Rock! Rock! till you drop
I say Rock! Rock! to the top

Yeh right. They fired all the dead weight. How about they fired all of the workers that almost made it to the most expensive pension packages and kept younger less paid employees. Keep telling yourself that you are more talented if it makes you feel better!!

How's about looking at the 15x15ers (with some hefty packages)....many were left in place to keep on workin' it! Some big pain creamers too...keep on hawking the cream!

.......Yet some of the tried and true sweat hogs got pushed out! Teamed with slackers, numbers tumbled? Its just too bad for you!

Keep up your arrogant attitude as some of those "dead weight & losers" come back to bite you one day. Karma like sweet revenge is a beautiful thing.

Cut the dead weight comments. Many people who carried the load were cut. Many lower paid without even a pittance of a pension were cut too. Good and solid workers along with so-called slackers. Clearly, no close analysis was made. No attention to details like record, age, or much of anything else..Hard to get a handle on it all, some people got royally screwed and this is not an understatement.

The bean counters made the decisions. Look at the demographics. That was most important factor in deciding if u stayed. This company doesn't care about performance, just in covering its ass from potential lawsuits.

I think the OP was reflecting a degree of sarcasm in the title of this board. Nobody and I mean nobody, really thought that this reorg was going to be a real attempt to trim the deadwood in this company based on some performance criteria. Saving money, avoiding lawsuits and elevating sycophants remained the modus operandi as it has been for the last decade. In the very first rounds layoffs one could see it was going to be business as usual. Clearly many of the wrong people remain in positions that affect the trajectory of this company. "So now what" is the fact that very little has changed other than total headcount. No big policy or strategic changes have really been enacted in the last two years which means that Merck is still circling the bowl and all of management hype about the next big thing in the pipeline is simply that.

Still does not explain why some people were cut who should have never been touched.

Knew they were cutting me when nothing was good enough. Put in over and above any requirement and still, never enough to please the manager. Meanwhile, some of those who rarely put in a full days work, failed to complete assignments are left to continue working the system....Learned one thing, if they want you out you will be out. One out, protects another...maybe a bud. It can be a no win for some people, no matter what. We profess to be a high integrity company? What happened?

What happened is that they got rid of the most expensive rep's and then they fired a handful of other rep's from other categories-women, young, ethnic, less expensive etc. so that they could justify getting rid of the older more expensive rep's (the majority in all cases that are fired). They even send you a letter upon severance letting you see this so that they can keep you from suing the mother ship. The best ass kissers were kept if they could be justified by the nebulous rules set up by corporate to justify who would be retained. This is easy to do because they are set up to justify any decision made.

Don't kid yourself. The dead weight & losers have been all that's left at Merck for quite a few years.

Working at Merck is like being a contestant on Survivor

If your work skills are really bad you get kicked out relatively quickly

As the game progresses, alliances become more important than work skills. A good salesperson who schmoozes the boss will survive over a great salesperson who isn't good at politics

Sometimes skilled people are targeted by people who are less skilled. The ethically challenged will lie and backstab to get rid of people who are better than them to improve their own chanced for survival

Getting kicked off the island ends up being good for many contestants. They get to leave deplorable conditions and get on with their life

"........schmoozes the boss will survive over a great salesperson who isn't good at politics."

You said it......friend of boss, you survive.

Sometimes a poor boss will view "certain others" as favored. Hmmm, another connection! Better to throw a non-schmoozer overboard!?

Shame on bosses who do such things....
