GSK Vaccines Development - US & BELGIUM

GSK Vaccines new R & D Head recently announced 2 mirror image centers for R & D. US & BELGIUM (WAVRE & RIXENSART).

It seems the US one will be carved out incoming Novartis Vaccines headcounts.

 

They said there would be 3 with final location of 3rd not decided. Plenty rumours it will be Novartis Siena site.

As for USA - might be at a GSK site and not Novartis Mass.

 

It will surely be in PA. GSK would have said they're keeping Cambridge in tact. There has been a mass exodus over there these last several months

 

Yes. The "leader" of the Novartis Vaccines Cambridge Mass site is going to head the flu business, so the rest that are going to GSK are pretty much scattered like sheep without a shepherd.

 

The NVD folks have been told it is Belgium, Italy and US TBD?

any thoughts that maybe RTP is in the fold since?

 

I thought that GSK folks in RTP are being told that their US research is being consolidated in PA. Is there truth to this?

 

Yes, that's US pharma. Vaccine could be different. Even if GSK decide to consolidate all US Vaccine R&D in PA in the future, it probably won't happen soon. UP site is under renovation to accommodate UM folks first.

 

Finally the Day 1 has been announced after much speculation.

So the USA R&D site confirmed it is not Cambridge

 

No surprise there. I heard that the disclosure about closing the Cambridge site was accidental.

 

The disclosure may have been accidental, but the decision is confirmed.

 

Was this acc identify on the gsk end? Whatever happens, I hope it works out for the best for everyone affected if true.

 

it was in the all hands deck presented yesterday. it was confirmed today by the NV QA head who stated she will be moving to the new headquarters and it will not be cambridge

 

The favorite sons and daughters have known for months. Its not an overnight yes or no for them. But we shouldn't be surprised. Its how GSK will get out of paying severance for all the overpriced Cambridge employees.

 

So, why not call their bluff and commit to going to Philly (or wherever)?

 

How so? GSK would still have to pay severance if the folks in Cambridge decide not to relocate, since relocation over 50 miles is considered "material change" to employment conditions and employees who decide not to move are entitled to severance.

So it's finally out that the site in US would be Rockville - Maryland.

Also the site from Novartis - Sienna, Italy stays.

Now looking forward to VET -2 and then starts the real action to clear out who goes on & who goes off.

The wise folks are already gone or giving notice this Friday. Time to move on while you have negotiating power, it is so much easier to find a job when you have a job.
