I don't know what's more pathetic: Applied's idea of a sales award trip, or the fact that you're still there. Maybe you've moved on, and I hope for your sake you have. To the last poster, I feel the need to correct you with one statement: Applied doesnt develop talent. Quite the contrary actually. My old mgr talked a big game about how he was going to develop me and one of my colleagues. Remember this: actions speak louder than words.

I anted to reply to this as I created a different thread about a realistic view. Replies in caps so it is easier to read.

Re 1) the comp plan is below average and erratic. Some quarters you make money, and other quarters you don't. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason.

    NO DOUBT. SPOT ON

Re 2) the senior mgmt team is out of touch with reality and doesn't seem to care about the opinions of the sales reps who are in the accts every day talking to surgeons. They just want robots who do what they are told like a parent telling their kid to eat his vegetables.

AGAIN SPOT ON. ANY RESPONSE THAT IS NOT "WHAT MANAGEMENT JUST SAID IS GREAT" IS VIEWED AS NEGATIVE. QUESTION THE COMP PLAN AND YOU ARE BEING NEGATIVE. POINT OUT THE REALITIES IN THE COMP PLAN AND YOU ARE BEING NEGATIVE

Re 3) there isn't much money put back into R&D, thus there aren't any new/innovative devices Applied has developed in a few yrs.

HERE IS WHERE WE DISAGREE A LITTLE BIT. I BELIEVE A TON OF MONEY IS POURED INTO R&D, BUT MOST IS SPENT IN R&D IN MANUFACTURING AND DISTRIBUTING. IF YOU EVER SEE THE MANUFACTURING FACILITIES THEY ARE IMPRESSIVE. OF COURSE THIS MATTERS LITTLE TO NONE TO DOCTORS, HOSPITALS, AND REPS.

Re 4) the products "suck" and are cheap. I could go into depth about specific products but this is just a summary

WHILE A GLOBAL STATEMENT, SOME PRODUCTS ARE PRETTY GOOD (GEL, BAG), BUT THERE ARE HUGE ISSUES WITH MANY OF THE OTHER PRODUCTS

Re 5) surgeons and hospital staff do not like the products. They tolerate them. Materials mgrs/purchasing are less than thrilled with the reps/mgrs level of support.

AGREE. SOME HOSPITALS ARE OK WITH THE LEVEL OF SUPPORT FROM THE REPS THOUGH.

Re 6) the benefits are below the industry standard and the 401k is deceiving.

BENEFITS ARE ACTUALLY WHAT I HAVE SEEN FROM MOST OTHER COMPANIES (HEALTH, DENTAL). CAR ALLOWANCE IS A LITTLE LOW. 401K IS DECEIVING AND ANY PERSON WHO FILED A LAWSUIT AFTER LEAVING COULD EASILY MAKE THE COMPANY HAVE TO PUT UP THE MATCH THAT THEY STATE IN THE 401K DISCLOSURE.

Re 7) the CRM software reps are forced to use is unreliable/inaccurate and basically just a way for the mgrs to micromanage everyone.

IT IS ABSOLUTE CRAP, BUT I DON'T THINK IT ALLOWS MANAGERS TO MICROMANAGE. ITS NOT LIKE YOU LOG YOUR CALLS IN IT DAILY. I WOULD BE EMBARRASSED IF I WERE SAP TO HAVE MY NAME ON IT.

    Re 8) quotas are unrealistic.

DEPENDS. SOME TIMES THEY ARE GOOD, SOMETIMES NOT. ALSO DEPENDS ON HOW CLOSE THE DM IS TO THE ZD. I WOUDL SAY THAT THIS WOULD BE AN ACTUAL PART WHERE THEY DO A DECENT JOB. MOST COME IN BETWEEN 90-110% OF QUOTA.

Re 9) the reps Applied generally hires are clueless (I'm seeing a pattern for why they don't pay well)

I DISAGREE HERE. I THINK THEY TELL THE REPS ONE THING AND DO ANOTHER. CAN'T BLAME THE REP FOR THAT. YOU HAVE TO TAKE WHAT MANAGEMENT IS TELLING YOU AT FACE VALUE PRIOR TO BEING HIRED. CLUELESS MAKES IT SOUND LIKE THEY SHULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER AND I AM NOT SURE HOW THEY COULD.

Re 10) you can't buy a surgeon a lunch, you can't buy bagels/coffee for inservices, and Applied doesnt believe in doing dinners to educate its surgeons on how to use its products. Instead, they force the doctors to pay $250 a non-refundable fee to attend a course.

YEP. WHAT THEY DON'T REALIZE IS THAT THIS IS WHY SO MANY REPS AT APPLIED HAVE NO RELATIONSHIPS WITH PHYSICIANS. ITS FUNNY THAT THEY WANT YOU TO SPEND 15 MINUTES+ WITH A DOCTOR GOING OVER WHY APPLIEDS PRODUCTS ARE SUPERIOR YET THE CHANCES OF YOU GETTING THAT TIME IN AN OR OR JUST WALKING IN AN OFFICE ARE CLOSE TO 0. THERE IS A REASON THAT MANY COMPANIES ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR LUNCHES, DINNERS, ETC. BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT WORKS.

Re 11) expenses are less than adequate (capped at $250 per month. If one goes over that amount , he/she has to eat it)

DEPENDS ON THE POSITION. SPECIALISTS ARE NOT HELD TO THAT NUMBER. I KNEW OF ONE SPECIALIST THAT HAD OVER $3000 OF EXPENSES PER MONTH AND NEVER HAD ONE ISSUE.

Re 12) turnover is one of the worst in the industry and the company doesn't seem to care. No value in rep retention. Turn and burn mentality.

    SPOT ON.

Re 13) no trips/awards......morale is low.

    SPOT ON

^^^Wow^^^ These two reviews are confident, well stated and dispassionate. Very consistent with the ranting lunatics of those who left the company disgruntled. What say the Applied managers who frequent this board? Any rebuttal?

I worked here for about a yr. before I got hired I had doubts about this company and my manager. I, too, would agree with 95% of what was said in the above posts (if you are a Territory Manager). Although 85+% of every other post is from a disgruntled employee or former employee, the posts on this board are actually very accurate, or close to it .....in my opinion. I don't want other prospective employees to make the same mistake I made.

Applied has a new energy device that will put a world of hurt on the energy market.

Wow, I left this hellhole earlier this yr & come on here from time to time to catch up on what's going on in the industry and couldn't believe how much hasn't changed here! Same train wreck. I wanted to add my own piece under this thread: the good news is that since I left, 2 of my customers said "It was about time! Took you long enough!" Then after the nice lunch we all had in the lounge, my OR contact asked me what does she need to know to get out of her contract with Applied because the products have been failing miserably the past few yrs so I told her & I'm happy to say they will be converting to Ethicon/Covidien within the next few months! Suck it Applied! You morons will never understand how powerful relationships are and I will happily help my customers get away from Applied anytime they ask. And by the way, I don't even directly compete with you anymore! I even had a 3rd customer tell me unprompted that it was a good thing I left because they already gave a handshake agreement to Covidien there but have another yr and a 1/2 to go on their contract at that hospital. I love watching this company crumble!!!!!

Interesting that Applied is "crumbling" when they keep growing and taking accounts left and right from Cov and JnJ while their sales forces keep consolidating and laying off.

Noone would ever know since your greedy tyrant leader refuses to sell and keeps the majority of the money for him and his bozo family members, but I can assure you here on the east coast Applied is losing business.

So because he doesn't want to sell, he's a greedy tyrant? Why should he sell? What benefit is it for you? You sound like such an idiot it makes me laugh.

No, he is just a TYRANT in general. Lets see last year screams at a gardener just doing his job while we were in Leadership Training of all things at an offsite location. He feels he owns all of RSM, not just his buildings. I wrote notes on how not to treat people after that display. And more recently during a dinner I attended in our famous Town Square, he throws a fit, makes a scene and leaves the dinner, CLASSY, and there are plenty more examples. Before the upper manager minion who always defends and writes, then find another job, screw off, truth hurts. My job is easy, not to far from home and a paycheck, I am not here to become rich (which only happens if your family anyways), I just like to work and be productive.

He owes the investors millions of dollars. The people that invested in the company so it could potentially be successful. Now when they want him to go public so they can get THEIR money, Said fights it. Hmmmm, if that doesnt say something about the guy what does. What do you think the evaluation of your stock options is. Are they even worth what we paid??? He places one of Groshans second rate losers at the front of energy sales. Was the guy successful at his last company? Was the guy successful the last couple years here? Ask around the answer is obvious. So don't you think that's a huge failure when Applied has so much on the line with energy. Said needs to get his head out of his ass and hire an actual successful person to lead the sales teams. Groshans, Stanley, Donahue they have never really been leaders of people. They have simply been placed in a management position. Donahue is probably the best out of the three, but he for some reason let's Groshans minimize him. That's why they call him Groshans lap dog. Its actually embarrassing.

I understand your frustration when things aren't going your way it is difficult to fight the wave of opposition; if you are sharp enough in your sales skills you will be hard and pointy piercing the feet of the giants that try to step on you. Voyant will put money in your pocket honestly so learn to temper your reserve so that you can profit from a product that will change the makeup of Applied and alter the course of your career.

So he doesn't have a right to get pissed? If you were at that dinner, you'd remember he got pissed at 2 asshole reps that got fired that night because of their arrogance and stupidity. I saw that too jackass.

I was there that night too and saw EVERYTHING that happened. Was the reps behavior a little out of line? Perhaps......but it wasnt grounds for termination. A REAL company would have pulled the individuals aside either during or after the situation and spoken to them like professional adults. Unfortunately, there is no HR here. HR works only for Said and his mindless family members. This is just another reason why this company is an absolute joke.

Maybe Said didn't feel that's how he wants his reps acting? A little out of line is your opinion. Way out of line was his. Ever think about that?

Have you heard the stories regarding Groshans and Donahues behaviors?? I don't believe Said has a significant morale compass, if he has any it would be considered selective.
