Excellent Customer Support

Shimadzu has a great system in place where there is field customer support to handle routine shopkeeping with current customers. While sales reps are supportive of their customers, this frees up the sales rep more to concentrate more on new sales. I think some others such as Agilent do this too, but it is mostly via phone. Shimadzu has dedicated field support. Works well for the customer and doesn't let the sales rep get too bogged down.

Guess you need to do this when your equipment is known within industry insiders as Shitmadzu.

Honestly, it is Shimadzu's competitors that throw around that Shitmadzu name. It appears to come from widespread resentment over Shimadzu's much lower prices. If Shimadzu didn't have loyal customers, they'd never make it. Don't you think?

No. Their lower prices is why they're still in the market - kind of why crappy Korean and Chinese cars are still on the market.

We had a Shimadzu spectrometer that ran on a windows 3.1 platform (bought in 2005). It'd crash if you looked at it sideways...
