Retired 3 years ago and found this to be a very timely and interesting observation. Had dinner recently with a half dozen former compadres - 3 now retired, 3 still working although one of them went to Amgen. As long as you keep the BS in perspective, you can appreciate the paycheck and benefits. It's a silly game folks, just a silly game. I miss a half dozen customers and a few of the reps I saw every 6 months at POA. But that's about it.

 

Absolutely right...and if your going to play the game, make sure you win! Glad you're enjoying retirement ... we'd all appreciate any tips for optimizing the next act!

 

# 1 tip - do your best to pay off the house. If not, your mortgage will probably be your biggest expense by far. If you do that, the rest should be cake.

Retired 2yrs. ago and feel exactly the same. Play the game, make no waves, fly below the radar, and you will be fine. I did it for 32 years, had a great life, enjoyed my family, friends, and don't miss all the mickey mouse bullshit.
One addition to above, I do miss the company car.
