Is this clown just stupid or a total tool? He seems to be an ok guy, but something is not right with this guy

I don't work directly for Ed, but the experiences I've had with him have generally been positive.

Without knowing details of what your referring to, the problem might be what a lot of our managers, especially for specialist positions, go through. Our incompetent upper management, totally lost in the fog as to how to find a way to grow business, create specialty hierarchies with poorly defined or unrealistic objectives as a way of delegating responsibility and having someone to blame when things don't happen. As a result the managers, and the specialists under them, desperately try to find any way to justify their positions, even if it's "busy work" that's not really productive in the big picture. If you're not producing results, you or your people damn well better have CRM filled with activities, even if they're useless ones.

Look at the history of specialty positions in Applied for evidence. Urology specialists, Alexis specialists, others that lasted so short nobody remembers them. Everybody's looking over their shoulder hoping their bosses don't notice that the objectives of the position don't justify the position, and the guy at the top of that hierarchy is the most paranoid of them all.

Again, I'm not sure if this applies to what you were referring to with Ed, but I wouldn't doubt it.

What is your point? Your question makes no sense. Ed is a good guy. The above post is right on the money.

I agree with the above post, Ed is a good guy, not very bright, but is put in a tough situation by senior management.

I have found Ed to be an honest guy, and smart. The problem is his lack of experience outside of Applied, so when he talks about Applied he sounds like an idiot, and a light weight.

These post are stupid, he is a nice guy over his head with little or no skills to lead a team.

Ed seems to have fooled most of you. Especially upper management.
First of all Ed is a very bright man: he graduated from Bucknell University folks!

I worked with him in the past and I can tell you he never forgets a name. He comes off
as a an enthusiastic country boy to customers, even remembering their dogs's name.
And he is knowledgeable about his products.

What most of you done know is that this man is an opportunist void of feelings for anyone who is beneath his pay grade.

When things go well in a trial, meeting, or presentation, he takes immediate credit for it.
If things start going south for WHATEVER reason, he immediately distances himself from the situation and blames the rep under him. Its like clockwork. If it is a big order that the rep may have been working on, Ed will have the rep email it to him then send it himself to his superiors.

He is completely terrified of surgeons and will not walk into ANY facility by himself unless he has complete immunity for any negative spin taking place

Look, the guy still wears his original picture from when he was first hired at Applied. This guy has survived their like a sly old fox for over 20 years. Most reps get fired or leave in 2!

Personally I don't know how he sleeps at night, but that seems to be the nature of Applied's hierarchy.

If you have an opportunity to work under him or on the same team, watch your back.

Thx for your response Ed! Duly noted. Just because you went to Bucknell doesn't mean you're smart. There are people that went to Harvard, Yale and Upenn that are idiots. You're no exception.

Grundel sometimes there is an itch and who can blame Ed for wanting a positive working environment instead of rubbing it raw. Understanding his position I am certain that he is not afraid of the pressures of the surgical side rather that he expects reps of lesser rank to have completed the labor and done their job in order for a person of his position to shine the chrome and sparkle in the light. Pud face as he may be that's the truth of those in power. You could shit talk him to your customers behind his back thats what the reps in my area do.

That is why they call him anything to get ahead Ed! The guy is a work of art, comes across as a good ole boy, but will do anything to make him self look good. A leader he is not, an opportunist he is!
