This story is right on about this issue. The reps at Novartis are being slaughtered as we speak today with approximately 50% of their reps being eliminated here in US. Our day will be here towards the end of the year as some of our key money making drugs begin to lose their patent protection. If you are younger you may have youth on your side when searching for another job outside of this industry, but for those 45 & over your job search will be much more difficult in any field (including pharma) that you may decide to look into. We all know the issues that have caused this, but it's a sad ending to what used to be a pretty good gig.

Russian Czars had titles like Peter the Great and Ivan the terrible.

Obama is the Obama the Destroyer.

It's terrible what politicians are doing to all people.

    I say repeal:
    FinReg bill
    Food Bill
    Sarbanes-Oxley
    Campaign Finance Reform
    Patriot Act
    And Obamacare

    Let America be America.

A powerful article indeed. We really are becoming completely dispensable.

Went to see my family doctor last week and found the practice he's been in for over 25 years has been bought by a large hospital. We can forget about calling on him ever again. He'll be told by his new masters what he can and cannot prescribe. Of course, Obama is personally to blame for this.

No matter how much we've getting screwed by the one percent we'll ignore that on this site and blame Obama for everything. Natural selection at work.........

Who pays for the Rx today? the pt.? Hardly, maybe 15% of scripts today are cash pay..who controls what product prescribed? the doc? barely, he gets formulary menu to choose from...so the bad ol'gov't and big mean insure companies are paying for vast majority of our products...us reps just don't see those 2 big payers...we don't influence'em..1 guy winning a major formulary placement is worth 400 reps in the field.

It all depends on what your market looks like. If you're in a market with one or two major players you will need less reps. In areas where you have a number of MCO's in the same playing field you can use some more reps(not a lot more), since there is a good chance you will be on some plans. In territories with a majority of Medicaid-good luck. With the government playing a major role in paying for drugs, it's not going to be pretty. Private practices being bought by hospitals impacts access and prescribing. The article pretty much gives a good blueprint to what is going to happen to Pharma jobs. Not good...

Interesting that the Cafepharma Pfizer manufacturing board generated no traffic at all. Obviously Pfizer manufacturing people are all WORKING and they don't care to spend time whining and back-stabbing online. Contrast that to the pitiful online behavior of all you flakes in sales and marketing........

There are thousands of ex-employees on the sales side that post in here.

There is a lot of restructuring, hiring then firing, one day X is the right thing to do then tomorrow Y is the right thing to do discussions and a lot more management confusion and ignorance as to how to manage from one day to the next on the sales side.

Maybe manufacturing is allowed to do their jobs and do what it takes to get it done.

Maybe sales is confused when one day you can give away a pen and the next day it's unethical.

When driving results becomes adding value and no one knows what that really means, it's confusing.

When adapting to change means 6 different managers in a year and a performance review written by someone you've only known for a month and territories that shift every year, constantly cutting off relationships with key customers, you may see why some folks on this side are speaking out more.

And maybe managers in manufacturing are more open to feedback. Managers on the sales side tend to stifle any open communication. Straight talk can get you cut in the next round of layoffs. Nobody has demonstrated straight talk and survived which is why no matter how often they say they want to hear us, the majority keeps their mouths shut. It's career suicide and dumb.

Or maybe the majority of people working in manufacturing don't even know about CP. How many manuf/research sites has this company closed in the last five years? How many people were displaced? If they knew about CP do you think they would post glowing things about Pfizer? I'm sure everything is smelling like roses where you are. Are you in a union??? How do you think that impacts your job vs. nonunion workers? I'm sure you love the company and tow the company line. Lets see how that would change if you had to wait by the phone every year to see if you have a job in the morning! Don't throw stones dude.

I suspect that is because many of the manufacturing people don't know how to use a computer...
