    1. Deirdre made us use up vacation days in 2010. This is most likely because there will be layoffs in 2011, and they want to not have to make cash payments for unused vacation time.

    2. Managers are already full-line. One of the Cardiovascular sales forces (I never bothered to learn which ones were gsk 5, 6, 7, etc) now will have Levitra, Avodart, Vesicare, Altibax sample, Coreg CR, and Lovaza...most other sales forces have expanded responsibilities as well. The next step will be to further merge the responsibilities of the reps, thereby having less reps, who are all full-line.

    3. They said there will be a 20-30% cut in lunch funds, and a 20-30% reduction in speaker program funds. Any rationale that they are using to reduce these budgets surely could be used to justify the necessity of further sales force cuts.

    4. Read the financial statements. They say there will be an "expanded restructuring programme, continuing through 2012"...

    5. Advair off patent, Loss of avodart Prostate Cancer indication (this was a huge one they were counting on), in addition to other stuff like loss of Coreg CR, healthcare implementation continuing, etc

    6. We've had a round of layoffs 3 out of the last 4 years

Please feel free to add other obvious evidence that the axe will fall in 2011

You must have a good source like I do. Our estimates are very similar. Layoffs for sure in 2011. Done deal.

Hey, I am just saying nobody cares about your opinion about layoffs. We all start fresh in 2011 and get our vacation we don't care about what you have to say. It's the same group of posters saying over and over again "layoffs are coming, layoffs are coming". My point is nobody cares about you "chicken little" we all still have jobs. Now hit the road and quit bothering us. Ha Ha!

    OP here

"Annual cost savings of £1 billion have already been
achieved. The programme has been expanded again
to deliver annual savings of £2.2 billion by 2012"

THAT folks, is directly from page 9 of the GSK Annual Report, which is posted on gsk.com. They think that sales reps dont go on there. It WILL happen in 2011.

Oh, and here's another HUGE indicator that layoffs will be upon us in 2011-
Go on Dashboard by say the middle of January, you'll see that everybody in CVMU has the data for all CVMU products. They are getting the IT infrastructure in place for the eventual merger to a full-line sales force.

Oh, and just for the "fun" of it, here's YET ANOTHER indicator-

THERES STILL A CHANGE AGENT position in every geography. And they always seem to try to have high visibility. If you think its not coming, you're out of your mind

Alright, alright !!!! We got it already ! Those of us that have chosen to stay have been cast into eternal damnation ! How could we have been so stoopid and not moved on to a 9-5 job working in some cubicle ? I guess whoever has left pharma is guaranteed to keep their new job for life !! Please, those that have left this industry to become doctors, pilots, lawyers & rocket scientists, have mercy and stop making fun of us !!!

It is one thing to be aware of what is going on and make an informed decision to stay at GSK. There are many reasons - be choosy about your other options, hope things get better, or stay until you can leave with a nice severance.

Being in denial and pretending everything will be just fine in 2011 is something else entirely. You will be caught unprepared when the axe does fall. There WILL be layoffs in 2011 - a lot of them - the wheels are already in motion. And just because YOU think you are a top performer doesn't mean you aren't already on the list for 2011 cuts.

Insider here. There will be voluntary packages offered again in 2011. The severance this time however will only be one week per year of service. This will be followed by downsizing. Everything is in place. Looks like April time line again. With too many reps and no products to sell, the above poster said it best-the writing is on the wall!
