What big pharma metrics, see your most important customers at least 1X per month and if you do, we'll pay you more in bonus $? The only areas that aren't true GI specialty positions are those that have high volume IM/PCP offices, we're paid a specialty rep base salary so who cares what drs are in our call buckets!!!

No one is ever happy with their call panel, metrics, blah blah blah. Keep on taking those resumes.

    Mr recruiter,

It is a big mistake if you are pushing on those reps you speak of. If they can't handle documenting their job at IW, they will fail miserably at their next job. Metrics-LOL, your employer wants you to see your customers and pays you bonus on it, imagine that! Your employer wants you to communicate with your business partners aka Forest reps, imagine that! No wonder so many other industries do not respect pharma reps, they bitch and moan at the very basics of their job description. If they can't handle these simple tasks, why would you push them for one of your clients? Did I mention we are speaking about GI's? The easiest speciality in all of pharma to sell too.

Both of the previous posts missed the main point of my message by focusing on the word "metrics". When I start to get a lot of resumes from reps from a particular company (especially one with a small sales force like Ironwood, I start asking questions. What I have heard consistently is that they came to Ironwood based on the opportunity to sell a great new product in a start-up, biotech type environment, where the focus would be on a clinical sale to GIs (with your co-promote partner, Forest, taking the lead on primary care). They are now looking at other options because they believe that Ironwood has evolved to more of a "big pharma" feel, where metrics are more important than sales, and where they are selling more to primary care than specialists. These are all experienced specialty reps. They understand (and so do I) that all companies in pharma have metrics. They just believe that the culture is not what they were promised, and the metrics was just one example of that cultural change.

I am happy if you like your job at Ironwood. As I have told your co-workers, the industry is contracting and there are few good jobs (and fewer great jobs) out there. I have successfully placed candidates in pharma and biotech for 20 years, and I can separate good reps who have concerns from bad reps who like to focus on the negative. The Ironwood reps that have approached me are the first type, and that is why I posted what I was hearing. If your feel differently, then you are at the right for your career.

Can we get back to the DMs? Are issues with them? I don't trust DH. Thanks

You don't trust him? Sounds like you know more than us.. Why are you asking the question if you already have an opinion

This may be the way to go. Unfortunately, all the original Woodies are no longer with the company. Settling for second best for DM's seems like the only choice, unless any of the original Woodies would be willing to return. These are the best choices for DM positions since they are the brightest, and best qualified.
I hope at least one or two Woodies will consider coming back!

Will you please stop with the "original woodies" garbage .. You post the same nonsense all the time... If anyone was so great why are they gone? And what do they have to show for their greatness? A company still loosing 200 million a year and a stock stuck at 15..

    Re: Arm Chair CEO

and how, Mr. Armchair Maverick CEO, would your biotech startup be doing if it had been in business (and spending $$ on R&D) for 15+ years with a profitable product on the market for only the last 2 ys ??

just curious, what would your expectations be, realistically ?

maybe look up the histories of Regeneron, Alexion, and the likes around the time when they got their first product approved? when did they turn the corner & become profitable?

The Woodies left voluntarily. They were aware of what they needed to do. Everyone knew they were the best and brightest Ironwood had to offer. Unfortunately, the company refused to keep them and their ability was taken away from them by corporate incompetence!
The return of any one of the original Woodies would be the best thing to ever happen to this company. Their leadership and excellence would be a real plus!

Truly, I was one of the original 10 Woodies hired. I am quite satisfied with my current situation, thank you very much!
But I'm still in touch with other original Woodies. One or two of them may consider returning, if the opportunity is "right".

No thanks. We don't need them. We don't need you either for that matter. We're fine.

You do need them, if you want the best and the brightest the pharma industry has to offer.

Denise was a lackey for the DMs back in the TAP days. He was Todd and George's informant. Ask him. Anytime a rep complained about a change in policy etc. Denise would note it, and then run to Todd or George to report on his coworkers. He was promoted ahead of worthy candidates because of his willingness to throw others under the bus. Just be careful with him.

On behalf of the former Woodies, the class of the original IW, we wish you well with your group of DM's. No former Woodie has been offered a DM job, nor would any Woodie accept, if offered. There is no intellectual benefit for IW, or for any original Woodie, to do so!
