Good point. Plus Medicare is going broke and we need more generics. Pfizer has had over a decade of huge profits on Celebrex. Move Over.

Next, Viagra then Lyrica. Pfizer better start beefing up its R&D and diversify.

Look at old annual reports online. We spent around $70 billion on R&D from 1998-2008. What did we get for this spend? The biggest sellers were Caduet and Vfend, I think. Lyrica, that HIV drug, the COX 2 portfolio, the Oncology portfolio, Zyvox, Lipitor, and the dreck we push now all came from companies that we used to partner with, and then ate. If we beef up R&D, how will we avoid the mistakes made two decades ago?

The current pharma push right now is in diabetes. That market reminds me of the CCB, ACE, and later ARB arms races that were around when I started. Maybe we can partner with one of the companies in this market, and then eat them in 3 years after Lyrica, Celebrex, and Viagra have left the building! Thats what McKinnell or Steere would have done. I agree that dumping billions into R&D this late in the game isn't going to much for those of us with 17-20 years of tenure. I am sure that many of us will be gone with the upcoming RFF (Re-shaping For the Future, the younger sibling of ATS). Time to suck up to the old Cluster A people over at Publicis!!!!

well the inhaled insulin didn't go over well, but diabetes is the last big disease state that can produce an annuity stream of income/profits..unfortunately, insurance and gov't have got onto how the pharma arms race in drug class (ACE, ARB, Cephlosporins) work and profits here aren't what they use to be.

Medical is broke because greedy hospitals, doctors and drug companies broke it. The cost of health care in this country is a joke compared to the rest of the world and don't feed me that BS about access blah, blah blah. Ask anyone from another developed country and they'll tell you our system is fucked up.

amen brother. the reason everyone hates us americans is that we are greedy backstabbing self centered money hungry lying cheating corporate tax dodging money laundering people who think the entire universe revolves around us. Celebrex is doomed, KAMs should be doomed, DBMs are useless, cluster 2 works for BMS, cluster 1, 3 and 4 don't do a third of the work the reps in cluster 2 do. Sooner or later we are all doomed.

enjoy your slow dying death and live the american ream I mean dream

Why would we ask anyone from another country how good HC is in the US? Just look at the number of world leaders come to the US for care. We have some of the best healthcare in the world and that's a fact.

The problem with HC in America is partially attributed to the groups you mentioned. You can say all you want about the sticker price for drugs or procedures or what ever, but the bottom line is very few pay that price. Either rates are negotiated and set (reasonable and customary) or they're never paid. You left off insurance companies, what gives.

The biggest problem is the patient. We choose to engage in behaviors that speed us to the grave. We want Docs, hospitals and drugs to cure us, but we don't do a damn thing to get better. By the time we wake and recognize the consequences of our excess, it's too late. We're sick, dying, and want all the best most expensive medicines or procedures to extend life by a year or two. We feel entitled to the best of everything when it pertains to us. The others can all go to all as long as I get mine.

Case in point, look up a few posts. Somebody posted this: Better education than having my head up Obama's ass like you.

They always said you leftards start the personal putdowns when you have lost the substantive argument. It's amazing how right they are. How does it feel to be attacked? (do you not see the irony in your statement)

    or this response:
You'd better up your medication because you just aren't able to see anything clearly. The *ONLY* thing we get from Republicans is nasty attacks that are based on lies and deception. Just look at any "Americans for Prosperity" ad. Since the GOP have nothing to offer the people of this country all they can do is trash the Democrats. Sadly, the majority of Americans are so dumb they believe all the Republican lies......

Problem with America isn't Republican or Democrat. The problem with America is we aren't Americans first, leaders of our family's second, leaders in our communities third, compassionate to others fourth, and republicans or dems a far distant 5th. Think about it.

Teva to launch in December. 2.3billion gone from 2015 projections. How deep will the cuts be?

Lipitor Cluster 2 cuts with a larger sales force was approximately 40-50% (if I remember correctly). The remaining reps divided to other divisions and a new product (Eliquis) launch. How many reps do you need to sell Lyrica and Flector....uh oh.

Correct me if I am wrong, but in the minds of the CEO and top leadership, don't they make cuts in order to "make up" for the lost revenue? They want to keep the stock price high.

Not only that, but health plans are gonna squeeze Lyrica so far down treatment algorithms that you'll need a notarized letter from the Pope to get a script.

There are 100 new territories opening in the vaccine division. This is an area that will be here for a long time plus give those who know how to sell, a lifelong opportunity. Ask your manager.

You can't be serious. Not even Pfizer is so stupid as to add full-time headcount when there is a literal army of recently severed multiple COE winners starving for contract work.
