Are they still doing pharmaceutical research in Rochester? Not one mention of Pharmaceutical research in the article.

Get over yourself. There is far more to B&L than pharmaceutical research. It's a big company with lots of products and divisions.

Does this mean they are not doing pharmaceutical research in Rochester? I am just curious whether they moved pharmaceutical research to another facility of is Rochester Vision Care only?

I know both Geroge and Joe very well - that article doesn't sound anything like them - much more likely the Valeant PR machine churning out "reasons to believe we won't screw you" and making George and Joe put their names on it... Very interesting that the D&C just prints blindlessly what is essentially an internal PR propoganda announcement...

That's what I thought as well. Even if it is a fluff piece, it is pretty accurate in what it says. There are good thing happening there and still good B&L folks.

It doesn't mention that many people are buried under the work of all those who left. There are many things that should be done but aren't. Valeant doesn't care because they aren't interested in boring details.

There still are a few Pharma people left. Very few. Not doing much and what they are doing could easily be transferred to a project manager or consultant that understands Pharma submission packages.

The how much Valeant spends on R&D should be fact checked. Some companies could say R&D is development of new manufacturing lines, reorganization charges, etc. The details of R&D spending can reveal a lot.

How many R&D folks are left after a year of cut backs in R&D?

So where is the R&D spending going to?

Layoff costs of all the R&D folks?

The hallways have never been happier. If you have your pick of offices and no more work to do you might be happy? Most organizations determine success by if their organization is growing. If your organization (R&D) is losing head count you are not a success.

Valeant also takes huge pride in saying they cut R&D after acquisition so an article that says Valeant is increasing R&D seems more than a little strange.

Yeah. Recatagorizing the operations spend as R&D is one way to do it. Another way to spin this, and pretend it's still the truth, is that Valeant's overall R&D budget is larger than the old B&L. Of course if you kept the all same measures in place and compared the 2013 Vision Care budget to the current it would be hard to look at yourself in the mirror and say the R&D budget is increasing....unless you were well paid to do so.

Signing your name to an article (whether a news or scientific article) says you believe in the accuracy of the information. If this article is a misrepresentation of the truth then it says a lot about the character of the two individuals that allowed their name to be connected to it.

Sometimes the truth is more important than a job. If Valeant encouraged the authors to sign off on this and it was not a true representation of what is really happening at B&L then they could have denied to sign or resigned.

More R&D spending by a company that publicaly has said that cutting R&D is a core strategy of the company seems like a gross misrepresentation of the truth.

If just one fact was added to the article (# of people that left B&L in Rochester since Valeant takeover) the Rochester article would not seem so cheery and optimistic.

Lets have real reporters write articles for newspapers. Not corporate spin doctors.

There were many let go from R&D. How the math layoffs in R&D = increased spending in R&D adds up to increased spending in R&D Valeant I am sure will not offer the details of this equation.

If you like making contact lenses it could be a happy time at the Rochester site. If you enjoy doing anything other than making contact lenses forget it.

Valeant boasted to shareholders that they cut over $900M with the B+L acquisition , much of that in R&D. Now we're to believe they're spending more than ever in R&D.

Sorry Valeant, can't have it both ways.

George Grobe and Joe Hart...if you really wrote this article then hang your heads in shame...we all know valeant destroyed B+L and made it a shell...removing so many of your old friends in the process....if they wrote this in your name without you agreeing...sue them

If it was written by a PR goon, the article could have been written in many ways without naming anyone. It clearly states they wrote it - they name themselves in it. Why would their names be used by someone else ? Who gives a cxxp outside B+L who George and Joe are ?

The halls have never benn happier - is that how it was worded?? What a total load of crap. After the lights in the executive suite went dark, and then the employee store closed, and the cafeteria became depressingly quiet and empty, and all other activity around the building stopped...am I missing anything...oh how could I forget - all PROJECTS came to a halt...yes, after all of THOSE things happened, then the halls became happy, yep, they sure did. What the hell are you guys talking about?? Oh, the monitor that once advertised accomplishments, awards, and activities of a once thriving and innovative company now show soaps all day. This place is a mere shadow of what it once was, and this is coming from someone who was THERE. These guys are sell outs, and if anyone tries to tell you that any of that garbage that was written isn't hot and steaming excrement, then they are sell outs too.

"a once thriving and innovative company "

That's funny. Were you THERE in 1988 or what ? Before J&J started kicking a$$ ?

Creative presentation has a LONG history in B+L. Remember Dan Gill ?

    Valeant = reality check

    Remember, crack is whack.

Sometime the truth hurts. Sometimes the propaganda machine can't be challenged about the truth. Not this time. Such blatant disrespect for the truth. It is amazing people like this can look themselves in the face in the morning and not puke.

    Happy hallways

    Increased research spending

    A glorious future

Let a real reporter into the hallways when management is not watching and lets get the real scoop. Oh where is everyone? They were here a year ago. Where are they now? Must be living in one of those happy hallways we hear so much about doing research with all of the increased research spending coming their way.
