Regarding post GSK careers for current Novartis employees, to is true that after the deal was announced the terms dictate that any current full time Novartis employee was restricted from moving out into another division. That keeps selling company from raiding the sold division. The proof of that was VN jumping just prior to to announcement. I guess one of the reasons why Novartis saved VN was that he helped Novartis offload us to GSK. Maybe he came up with the scheme that effectively pays GSK $1.5B to take us and saves face for Novartis. Maybe the idea was developed by a McKinsey colleague and given to VN to save him.

Sounds like a repeat of his time running NA Commercial. All functions fte ballooned way out of proportion to sales. 3 or 4 sales org models were tried. Marketing numbers simply made up out of thin air. Entire orgs reinvented just for commercial when there were others around the corp that could have been leveraged. Marketing spending of $20-40M not including $5M plus sales meetings. This was all enabled by AO but VN requested and spent the checks.

The most viable theory about why they saved him I've heard.

I predict a significant number of reps will leave on September 30th at the end of 3rd quarter...

More than 384,000 and going towards 400,000. Gotta be the most successful thread in CP history.

Congrats on getting out! Good to you and to all who are getting out of here.

Mass exodus coming from clinical development very soon. The few that have left recently are going for the aforementioned jobs that will be obsolete soon, but I know of more than a few that are planned to give their two weeks or straight up quit and walk away in the next week or two. This is the prime season looking for jobs, as everyone is back from summer vacations.

Good you for you! I'd like to know how people are getting jobs though. I've been actively searching for 6 months and not even an interview.

Now I've heard that with absolute certainty GSK is not keeping a cambridge office. We had been repeatedly told that of course they would want to keep a "cambridge presence"... what a lie.

I heard long term, GSK is setting up a vaccines presence in Houston. Someone posted that months ago and was ridiculed for mentioning. I'm hearing it more and more. If they actually keep any NVx'ers to move down there to Texas is another thing

I don't it rediculous to move it to Houston but to think that it will be anything of the size and scope of the cost black hole here is rediculous. There could be an all Americas commercial office there and GSK partnering with Texas A&M on cell based vaccines but no body is as stupid as Novartis was when they spent ~ half a billion dollars on HS and can't even afford to keep it operational now. If they are smart, they will outsource most of Development.

I got mine through a connection. Just like a post above says, the stench of this place is all over us and it takes a personal recommendation to get it off. If you are in DEV, good luck. I am not sure it works as even commercial guys at other companies talk shit about it.

Houston (or anywhere else in Texas) is a f-----g genius move. Talk about a savings in operational costs! I won't go through the reasons or numbers other than to simply say Taxachusetts vs. Texas. End of story. And if anyone in Cambridge is lucky enough to relocate down there, you will feel exponentially wealthy with all of the money you'll be saving in the form of state income tax.

It's who you know, people. Plain and simple. Very few happen by seeing a posting and responding with fingers crossed. I got mine through an old co-worker and am most grateful. I read on here about retention and severance and a bunch of BS reasons why some people are seemingly sticking it out. Fools, you are. Those of you with one foot out the door, you're the smart ones. Get out now. The search process is not easy, but stick it out. It will happen. The clock is winding down on "Novartis Vaccines & Diagnostics". Those waiting to see and hoping for the best, I smell trouble.

On first analysis you will save money just on the cost of living. But if you want to maintain any semblance of modernity you'll have to spend to make up for it. For example, you'll have to send your kids to private schools or they will grow up to be Creationist morons. Medical Care, you'll have to be very selective. Texas only requires Doc to be Texas Certified not Specialist Board certified like in Mass. Ok, if you select you own Doc but get out into the boonies and need a physician you'll be in trouble. How else would they get someone to be a Doc in such terrible places.

If you think that Texas is an answer to anything you need to think more about what the question is first.

Typical Northeast elitist, inherited money or scored a small-sized trust fund, so the cost of living has never really been an issue for people like you. I've been down there several times and have some family living in the Dallas area. Its really not that bad. The extreme heat can wear on you, but it only lasts a few months and the rest of the year is perfect. The housing is cheap and the education is not that much superior in MA. The education differences is a nice myth most MA residents convince themselves to feel better about the higher real estate costs and taxes and public school sky-high salaries and bloat. Plus, if you leave it up to the schools to teach your children everything, then how are you as a parent? So much is learned of what is self-taught in the home ...you need to get your life priorities in check in order to make that happen.

Needless to say - if that is true, that GSK is looking to have a US presence (not their vaccines HQ) in Houston, chances are it will only be commercial hub and a select small handful of those currently in R&D, and that is it. 10% at most and that is probably a bit high. You people should also look towards what they did with a company they had in Cambridge up until a year ago. This company, was studying the use of resveratrol from red wine, they failed miserably at most of their studies. GSK laid off 95% of the company and moved the remaining researchers to Philly to continue their research in hopes something may still come of it. I have a feeling Philly is the most likely option once Cambridge is shut down.

It all goes back to the same point. They are not keeping most of you, start looking or pick up the pace if you already are.

Saw on another post that EU regulators are looking at that Novartis/Eli Lilly Animal health swap and will decide by October 3rd. This was part of the GSK/NVS swaps. Could that regulatory review be right soon thereafter? I heard that is the only thing truly holding things up for the official close

Yes. Remember, you heard it here on CP first - the crappy gossip site that has an uncanny ability of revealing a lot of truths along the way. You certainly did NOT hear it from anyone in this vaccine land of make believe claiming to be a "leader". They're as clueless as the reception detail at 45 or 75.

Barring any regulatory holdup, this thing is in the rear view mirror at some point in October and by Nov. 1. As it is now September, I'll boldly start the countdown clock now and will look for a close by Oct. 31. Week one - here we go. And they better hurry or there won't be anyone left to transfer. Can't wait to return tomorrow to hear about all of the fresh resignations this week.
