How many layoffs have you gone through or have seen your friends go through? How many of us have a plan b to fall back on? We know this won't be the last layoff, but we sit back and do nothing, I included. This is our fate until our number is called. We are too lazy to do anything to help ourselves.

    Correction to above poster.
Not all. I can read the writing on the wall. I hand raised, actively pursuing a totally different career path, prepared to have to downsize my family' s finances, praying my hand raising is accepted. If I have to do this over n over why to jump now?

Buggy whip salespersons were sent packing because just around the corner was something better.. the automobile. Pharma sales are dying, not because of advancements in healthcare, but just the opposite. Our healthcare system today is so screwed up by know-it-all jackass self serving politicians that its amazing that any company still thinks active promotion of their drugs to doctors produces a meaningful return on investment. Does Merck have some culpability in this debacle? of course. It goes without saying that Merck has made so many mistakes over the past 10 years that you couldn't begin to list them all. But the primary wrecking ball(s), for anyone who cares to open their eyes, are things like Obamacare, massive never ending regulations, and a government that is hell bent on squeezing every last penny out of companies and individuals. The economy is dead, not because Merck thought its new selling model should look like a wheel instead of a pyramid, but because the country as we knew it has been replaced by a socialists wet dream. But hey, look on the bright side, those of you who are thinking about ending it all, can always use the 12 inch high Obamacare law as a step stool to stand on as you put the noose around your neck!

All my finance in order and waited for the call. It drove my manager crazy because threat of financial hardship and loss of a job did not bother me. I was trying to draw a pay check as long as I could and then I said goodbye.
