and then I came across this:

"Medline's recent legal troubles are not the company's first brushes with the law. In 1986, the company settled a so called "defective pricing" case with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs that cost it about $2.15 million, though it is believed that as much as $6 million to $8 million was actually involved. And in 1985, James Mills, one of the company's owners, was hit with a criminal tax evasion conviction stemming from $124,000 worth of expenses charged to Medline that actually went into home repairs and remodeling in 1977 and 1978, a conviction that resulted in Mills' performing community service and entering a work release program."

"In that 1994 matter, Medline sued Rybacki in a case that involved a number of issues relating to the treatment of its sales reps, one of which was an attempt to retrieve payment from Rybacki in instances where a customer did not pay for goods sold by Medline. In October 1994, the company summarily fired Rybacki, who quickly obtained legal counsel. Ultimately, the legal foray by Medline boomeranged and the company had to agree to pay Rybacki approximately $75,000 for his troubles."
