  1. In the last couple years Stryker Ortho has lost $12+Million in sales in L.A./O.C. now there are 3 more reps getting ready to leave with another 6+Million in sales! All has happened since they made Jim Kichler the AVP started his "hire a college Jock" new sales rep approach to sales. The branch manager who came from Endo with no Ortho exp. was let go this past year and the sales managers in both L.A. and O.C. are jokes and the reps on the Gallup survey proved this! Partner this with Stryker's new 6% commission plan and watch sales keep going down. They have no "major" docs in O.C. or L.A. using their hip and knee pdts anymore and soon it will be a lot less!

Agree, the AVP's are a joke. Blondie was a hustler in Az and things sound like they have not changed. The guy who promoted him, Denver AVP, should have been dumped years ago when he could not cut it in Canada and his frat. buddy let him have his old job back . Friends of O'Brien have tenured jobs. These AVP's are holding Stryker back. The new Prez needs to clean house if things are to move forward. Just my opinion.

and add the "current" 6-9 month hiring process in so cal ortho, not to mention that about a dozen so cal ortho territories have been pretty much without reps since last summer too while losing market share to the bigger fish for the icing on the cake

the President of Stryker Ortho div. has said that Ortho reps have been overpaid for years and that he considers total joints are now a "commodity" product! He said Stryker is not going to pay Ortho reps like they used to and 6% is not the bottom yet! good luck to all the Stryker guys out there.

if comments are true, the Pres made his money off the backs of the Rothman docs et al. So, was he overpaid ?

The Pres that is being to I believe is David Lloyd the Ortho Div. pres, the one that took over last year for Kevin Lobo, Lloyd didn't make his money of Rothman,et al, he only joined Stryker a year ago

You care or you wouldn't click in the thread. LA and SoCal will continue to hemorrhage reps as they all look for a better deal before comp drops again at NSM next year. The losses in the short term won't matter as Stryker continues to buy lights and sponge counters. They'll eventually figure out how to contract with the hospital to be a sole or dual source provider for everything. The most important guys will then be national accounts. The rest of us will become 60-80k coverage reps. Your relationships won't matter as docs lose their ability to choose when they become employees or partners with the hospitals.innovation will die in favor of acquisition. Let all those little companies you've never heard of at AAOS create and we'll snatch em up. Good times all around.

Biomet just hired the last 3 tenured Stryker reps in L.A., all three were at quota in 2013 $7M+ in business
Since Jim Kichler took over as AVP they lost 3 reps in L.A. 3 reps in O.C. together totaling $13+M and now $7M more in L.A. They lost one of their big consultants in San Diego and their biggest consultant in L.A.
The two sales managers, Jack Barnhisel in L.A. and Sarah Schindler in O.C. are jokes and no reps have any respect for them. Barnhisel got one of the lowest scores for a Stryker manager on the Gallup given to employees to rate their managers
Market share in O.C. is less then 5%. In L.A. less then 10%. Both areas have majority of reps with less then 1 yr of experience. Kichler's "hire jocks right out of college with no experience" approach is not working for them. in 2013 they went through double digits in reps hired and quitting within a year!

"Biomet just hired the last 3 tenured Stryker reps in L.A., all three were at quota in 2013"
    1. To make matters worse 4 reps hit there number 1st quarter 2014, Those 4 reps quit two weeks later! JOKE!

Kitchlers "higher a jock" WILL backfire, more will leave if they keep screwing the reps.

Put blame where it belongs---Smith and O'Brien IMO How discouraging for the shareholders.

Smith has nothing to do with it, he's the AVP in Denver, Kichler is the AVP over Ca. and it's been a downward slide since he took over.
Jack Barnhisel was fired over the weekend, so looks like someone is finally realizing there is a big problem in management!

It's ok. Stryker just lost another 5 rep team in Fresno too today. Gotta love it. The arrogance of the upper management and the lack of respect for reps will continue to bite them in the butt. Maybe they will drop their commission rates again next year to 5% or partner with Ortho Direct USA. They are a joke!!!
