I have been approached by Alcon management about an opening for a Cataract Account Manager position. I have worked in the OR with the Alcon reps over the past few years and it seems to be a pretty good position. What are the thoughts from people within the organization on this position? Pay? Base and at plan # Quality of life? Role the manager plays? Micromanaged? Ive been in surgical sales for 5 years. What type of experience level does the typical individual have when getting this position? Thanks in advance. Much appreciated.
99% of people on this site are on the pharma side of Alcon so best of luck getting answers. If you've worked in the OR with Alcon surgical reps for 5 years, maybe you should think of reaching out to one of them? Not trying to be a jerk, but you're wasting your time on here.
CAMs make 150k at plan Account Managers or AMs make 180k at plan EMs make 200k at plan. VMs make 210k at plan. Used to be the top of the food chain for surgical Sales jobs. Top reps hit 250k now. Used to be in the 300s. Management is a joke. They now want to turn and burn reps. Used to be a good Career. Now you are working surgical rep hours, stress, under A pharmaceutical management mentality. The products are good. Prob Best in class but things are changing. No one is happy here anymore . Some of the best Have already moved on. Usually the heard follows. Most People stay at the company for the 401k match and they are too comfortable. When the 401k goes so does half the sales force. More money And better management other places.
Are you female? If so, don't bother! Alcon surgical is a good ol boys club with females only in roles like cataract refractive manager and only after childbearing age is over.
Really???? I just told you 180k and you are Going to come back at a 5 percent difference? Wow, you sure your ready for surgical sales? It all depends on the quota you are given And the opportunity for growth. Since we now Dominate the market in every position the people That do well financially live in ca, Florida, or Texas. All Growing population above the national average. If your territory is doing 2000 more cases this year Versus last year then you can be an idiot and Make money. Management does not tweak quota which makes Them stupid. The truth is Alcons surgical Rds blow. The national Average for a surgical rep is 220 at plan and 350 at top 5 percent. Most companies you Are carrying a 2 million dollar quota and here You are carrying a 10-12 million dollar quota. Lots of political bs. Management are a bunch of snobs that act sweet. They are only there Because people like me are digging the trenches. Not for long. 3 years this entire company will be new. All The good reps gone. Since we have none competes I can not Wait to sell again Alcon.
