What are a few names of medicines that can heal foot ulcers? Also are there any companies that deal with foot ulcers that I should know about. Granny is about to lose foot(toes). Thanks for your help!
Sorry to hear about your "Granny"! Try Santyl, Bensal HP, Dermagran. Some companies Smith & Nephew, 3M, Convatech. Good Luck!
Get your Podiatrist to put Dermagraft on it weekly. The company is Advanced Bio Healing.. It is the best available.
It is not so much the product as who does the treating. Get her to a wound caer center but forst, make sure that the doc you see works there more than 4 hours a week. Lot's of hospitals have wound care cneters staffed by docs who know nothing about wound care, take a three day course and then are rewarded with a position int he wound care center. They know nothing more than they did before they started but now are suddenly experts. Stay away from any "chain" centers such as National Healing and the like. They have poor outcomes and use cookbook treatments. They will push hyperbarics because it makes them money. As if they use Dakin's solution, Silvadene, peroxide or use swabs to culture wounds for infection> If they answer yes to any of these run away as fast as you can!!!
Except diabetes also causes microvascular problems so fixing the big vessels helps a little but you need to use some tricks to get that blood to the smallest "feeder" vessels.
Tricks include use of an ACE and a statin (which all diabetics should be on) and Pletal. Dr. Miller in Indiana has written and lectured on using these to help promote microcirculation in diabetics.
