It might be announced next Tuesday after the earnings call. Last year this was the pattern.

Don't know what was announced, but Riad, giving less than 10 days notice, is having all DCO's in PC fly to Philly for a 2 day meeting starting Monday. Come on and see the writing on the wall. PC has many people on "special assignment", no hiring (even Inventive) of reps, and nothing to sell. Watch for PC to shrink in size. DCO, CTL, MAE, and REP positions will be eliminated. Why do you think upper management decided to pay out bonus after the first half of the year. You better get your resume in order!

Many people on special assignment? One or two is all I've seen.

Look for signs. Has your DCO changed there schedule for this coming Monday and Tuesday? Tuesday is when Merck's earnings are announced. The timing of the DCO - Riad meeting will be completed on the earnings reporting day. Will the report include signals of field layoffs? If there is a layoff announcement the DCOs would then have to meet with the managers to spin/communicate the layoff information. This week may be a very interesting week.

The info is right in front of you, 7960 positions to be eliminated (MRK sec form 10k; 2/27/14'; pages 82-84). Next week, next month? Anyone's guess but you have been warned about Riad before. Expect entire divisions to be obliterated if not sold. This stinks, good luck peeps.

Another sign is the recent career profiles that were due on 3/31. This might be a tool they use to decide who stays and who goes. I though it was odd that Merck would require the entire salesforce to set up a profile-resume just in case we had any employment need due to promotions etc.. It is not like Merck is going to have dramatic grow due to new product introductions that these resumes were needed asap. Here we are nearly 30 days after the profiles were submitted.
    Good luck to all!

Don't you think most new layoffs will be for Consumer HealthCare. Merck is global and has many employees other than a sales force in US?

Consumer layoffs will take awhile - and belong to the buying company. PC is on the block, wholesale, and shared services, starting with finance, are about to get outsourced.

Surprised at how many haven't posted a photo and profile-resume yet.

    What's up with them?

Poster 14 sounds pretty confident he or she knows the business plan are you in home office or just guessing?

Those are the "high performers" that don't even check email on a regular basis. Either that or they couldn't care less what management does.

Your geography may only have 1 or 2. Take a look at the NC COG. The VP is on special assignment. There are 4 DCOS on special assignment. There are numerous CTLS and MAES on special assignment and there are many vacant rep positions not being filled. Let's face it. More cuts are coming and it's not going to be pretty.

Several people have quit. Not even waiting for a severance. Either they know something big and bad is coming or they figure, bird-in-the-hand. ie, Grab a lifeboat when you can find one. The next two months will reveal everything. Good Luck to all.
