maybe, but I actually am not sure that GSK staying independent is that much better of an option.

Last year there was the Lovaza generic and the Advair ESI plunge but there then there is very poor share for Resp launch products that all totaled are no where near Advair's share, MAGE failed, darapladib failed, BPH products ($400-500mil?) going off patent later this year, much higher rebates and free coupons which have to be hurting profits, heard BI is launching Resp competition this year, potential Advair generic in 2017 years, possible punishment from the US govt for China scandal, etc. What do we have to balance that out...Mepo which will have 2-3 competitors and probably payer pressures, the Zoster vaccine that looks good, and then nothing else for 3-4 years.

So it seems if we don't get bought we are in for 3-4 more years of job cuts, budget reductions, etc on the pharma side. It may actually work out for better to preserve jobs in the UK for GSK to merge with Pfizer and keep London as global HQ.

but that is what Pfizer is looking to do as well..

They made a lot of $$ selling Spinning Fort Dodge out of Wyeth.

look for them to put together a larger series of stand alone companies (vaccines, CH, Rx) and seek them off. Pfizer will become a large holding company

Pfizer is a parasite. They barely produce their own drugs, being dependent on buyouts, absorbing what they can and tossing the rest. Like a giant wounded mastodon thrashing this way and that in an effort to survive, they appear to hardly know what direction they are going in.

Pfizer is too smart to buy this mess.

Translation: "I am making up a story about GSK and Pfizer, just like I make up every other piece of speculation I post on this board".

Who cares if you produce your own drugs? When you have the cash you buy companies who have them if you don't have em. How is that a wounded strategy? GSK spent $60 billion on R&D the past 5 years and barely found anything. The lack of intellect with posts like these is mind numbing. Your a moron.
