Why announce non-specific layoffs so far in advance?

Seriously? Usually the ELT would wait until 4th quarter to drop the big one ... Heck, last year they waited until December (Merry Christmas!). I realize Ian wanted to "sexy it up" for the earnings report, but the momentum that field sales had going in S1 will surely sputter out as colleagues turn their attention to job-hunting, retirement planning, and/or heavy drinking.

    "Stay focused"... That's a real knee-slapper!!!

They want people to leave on their own so they don't have to pay fat packages. Especially those in IS with their inflated salaries

Bye bye, bye bye!! I hate to say it but Institutional Sales just does not match the new "disease state"structure. It may not make sense but that is our direction. Very sad for IS, if you actually think you will be her in Q4, 2013. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Nothing new. IS holding out for better offers. Why jump, when uncle will pay dearly to lose great highly-skilled talent diffused elsewhere? Personally, I would hate to sell against this tenured and talented bunch! Lots of jobs are out there for hospital account skills where hospital is the epicenter of legislative reforms and delivery if care.

"Highly skilled institutional pharma sales rep" is an oxymoron to the outside world. And when you're on the street, that's exactly what you'll hear over and over. That is, if you can get any headhunter or hiring manager to call you back.

I can think of 12 people that used to be IS senior-level reps and managers. As far as I know (or can see on Linked In) 6 found jobs; 3 went with that skin care company that was loaded with Pfizer people, and a couple got hired by small companies with a psych med. One just called me last week because she thinks that she might land a job with a contract shop that is filled with Pfizer people.

I know I'm just one person, but Ive been here for two decades. I know a crap-load of ex-pharma people, still lurking the 'net and calling people, hoping to get anything that pays over $75K. Sorry, but thats the truth.

Who cares? I'll take a vaccine CSO rep job and horrorize the vaccine rep. Touché.

Then they are losers! It's pathetic how laid off Pharma Reps keep trying to come back to this POS industry. There are lots of good, high paying jobs out there folks. The GLORY days of Pharma are long, long GONE!! Get a life---

So not true. $75k not that much anymore for a sales job.

75k is a ton of money for a sales position that has nothing to do with sales. If pharma were a true sales position, you'd make about 40k base and everything else would be your bonus. This will never happen in the pharma industry because no one really knows how accurate the numbers are and the numbers come out 3 after the fact. We all know this. That's why we stay. It's easy money and you don't have to sell anything. Lobbyists and managed care specialists are the true drivers.

Soon you'll be a "laid off" pharma rep too! We all will sooner or later. You better be careful with the shade you're throwing around cause it'll end up slapping you in the face! What goes around....

Maybe you should "get a life" before you start judging others -hypocrite.

What are these good, high paying jobs that you boast about. Can you tell us two companies that pay well that are hiring experienced pharma people? I've been asking this question since 2009, and the only answer I've seen posted are other pharma companies that are launching new meds.

40K base is realistic for what we do. The days of 120K are rapidly coming to a close. Don't worry though. Our fellow Republicans will reach down and help us out, right? Well, you know that won't happen - they'll spit on us and then walk all over us............but we'll keep voting for them, won't we?

It's worse under Obama. Low-income, Part-time jobs up and corporate profits/wall street way up. Check it.
