Get off you soapbox, pops and be thankful that when you built your business (which is your job and what we all strive to do each day) that you had the selection of accounts to generate that kind of business. Many people have territories out there that consist of smaller accounts which will never generate the big numbers. Not a socialist here..just a johnny come lately to the party after the territories were split many times.

Almost everyone who's worked for a company that's been bought out always buys the bullshit about no changes and no layoffs. Those people are wrong 95 percent of the time. This may be different, but probably not. Let's revisit in 7 months. Good luck to everyone.

I am not trying to be rude, or on a soap box, and I am 32 hardly worthy of the nickname pops.. I have been in the game for 7 years now. I have had accounts flat out taken away (with no lost comp), Ive given up accounts voluntarily, Ive been locked out of major accounts from contracts, in one year I even had 4 incredibly loyal surgeons move to other states! Even through all of that adversity I have managed to grow my numbers AND hit quota (some of them rather obnoxious) year after year. Did I get lucky with regard to accounts, yes, and ill be the first to admit it. But more importantly did I make my own luck, yes, often times. I don't care where you are geographically, If you are selling orthopedics for any of the major Ortho companies the types of incomes that started this thread, and my rant are entirely possible. You have to work hard for it, become an expert master your craft, and dominate your accounts (which is what your job is!). For the record.. I started as an associate... like most of you i'd assume.. I got my own territory 1.5 years in. I was "gifted" a territory that was doing less than 300k (sales, not my income) in business at that time (before we start in on my huge territory I was given)

Its these kinds of attitudes that have allowed me to dominate you! And I'm not just talking about the poster, I'm referring to all Synthes reps. Its the attitude that your territory "should" generate a certain kind of money, thinking you deserve it. Synthes offers great products, and many of you are great reps, I have a tremendous amount of respect for most of the Synthes reps I personally know. But, I have also seen those same great, knowledgeable reps lose business because of their general arrogance. You have to constantly go after new business, AND maintain your existing business.

Im stepping down off my soapbox. Im not trying to preach to anyone, like I said, I have a tremendous amount of respect for you all. Im just saying It can be done, there are still people putting up those kinds of numbers (and not all of them are worthy of the name "pops"). One last thing, I didn't get here selling hips, or knees, or 35k/case spine implants while tossing in a few extra pedicle screws.... I ONLY sell trauma... one other reason I have so much respect for you Synthes reps, and part of the reason the original comment struck such a nerve. We've all been called in at 2,3,4 am.. and worked the whole next day, missed the kids birthday, missed your own birthday.. the list goes on. We all make good money compared to most, and have been given an incredible opportunity at a very comfortable life...if you aren't making the most of it, go after it, don't sit on the sidelines and bitch about the guy that is.

please excuse me.. I have to go count my money, lol

Stealing from the company? Where do Synthes reps find the time when we all know they're busy stealing from their accounts.

LOL @ people who think they have a clue! No one knows anything. You don't drop $22 billion on a company to tear apart it's infrastructure and what's made it an appealing acquisition to begin with.

I laugh at idiots like you that don't understand that cost savings (i.e. lay-offs) are a huge part of wringing out the value in such deals.

Spine to follow the distributor model? You still think that this late in the game? The number of DePuy distributors has been dropping like flies over the past several months, in fact, we will probably be able to count the number of "spine distributors" on 2 hands, maybe even 1 hand when all is said and done at closing. Most (literally speaking) of the DePuy reps who were working for distributors are now direct employees of JnJ, or looking for work. Granted there will be a couple areas in the country where DePuy distribution is strong, like around 100 million + annually strong, that will remain as distributors.... at least for another year or two, until Orsinger gets ahold of them... Orsinger is known to dislike the distribution model. Hey, I could be wrong, Im not on the integration committee, but I have gotten a pretty wide picture of what has happened across the states thus far.

Your command of the English language is horrifyingly bad. When you say "this country," are you referring to Switzerland?
