Any news on layoffs in consumer products Summit site? What was the severance package given to other divisions with layoffs?

2 weeks for every year of service and AIP. Subsidized Cobra. Nearly 20 yrs service.

The current severance plan is a little better, 15 years would get you about 35 weeks pay.

BUT, since CH is going to be sold, all that is moot. The acquiring company will do the firing, and no CH people will have any tenure with them, severance will be nill. COBRA will apply based on the acquiring company's health insurance plans.

That's a nice wish, but is not in any of the existing Merck summary plan documents.

Does that mean you feel you would be rebadged?

I know people that were rebadged and it was the best thing for them! Screw you Merck!

You need to get badges off the brain. Rebadging is when Merck decides to outsource activities. Merck is not outsourcing activities here. They are selling the business. You might look at burning your badge for warmth. Or Walmart might might give you a new badge when you go to work there. But there will be no re-badging.

To the original question - is there Summit headcount reduction still in the works, even with an almost certain sale of the Division this year?

Summit will be in a dormant state, just necessary maintenance operations by summer. What the upper management refers to as "custodial mode". there will not be any occupants in any building on the summit site, more than likely facilities will be outsourced to an outside contractor.

The Memphis site is referred to as a "custodial commode." All wiping will be done by outside contractors.

What about the rest of the consumer health sites?

Is Summit a Merck site? If so, there is a head count reduction planned.

    Are you new?

I heard Novartis and J&J aren't interested anymore but that Dunkin Donuts jumped in the ring now! Good news! Can't wait to visit the company store and stock up on Munchkins for a penny! Things are looking bright for us healthcare suckers!

Novartis is still looking, but not as a CH/AH swap, just a CH buy. J&J does not want it, because they have antihistamine product lines that would overlap with Claritin. They would have to divest the Claritin brand, which defeats the purpose.

Reckitt is the odds on favorite, no overlap in categories, plus they already market Dr. Scholls outside the US. A Reckitt buyout would result in about 90% of MCC losing their jobs.

Summiters and others - pray you get cut from Merck. You will be much better off financially than if you are sacked after the sale.

That may be. Merck has a work restructuring severance plan in place, which kicks in if we are let go by Merck. To our knowledge there's no Merck "change in control" severance plan so on the Consumer Healthcare side, that is the big question. Likely that will be part of the sale negotiations, but what it will be, if anything, is the big question.

When the Wayne site was sold, they were all pissed off!

On Friday they were Merck, Monday they were XYZ.

Any Wayne employees please correct me but there was NO severance.
