The medicines company interviews were full of Durata territory business managers this week. Leaving so soon? Why?

Dave's great. The people, vision and company platform are all awesome. The product just doesn't have the hype that I was sold on. Hopefully, it gets utilization before the end of the year.

Unless we get our reimbursement act together we are screwed. The outpatient market is going to be the primary driver for us. I've had 4 hospitals deny it for formulary addition already and none have approved as of yet. Definitely not the wonder drug they made it out to be.

Wow, 2 weeks in and your already defeated? The biggest problem Durata (and all start-ups) will face is that 50% of the TBM's they hired are not cut out for start-up. You should have stayed in your pod or wherever you came from.

If you think it's tough here, go on over to the Med Co and see what Orit is like. 3 hour infusion with toxicity concerns should be a really easy sell for you. No flexibility in dosing and reimbursement for a 3 hour infusion should be a walk in the park. If single dose gets approval then the ability to tailor dosing for each patient a circumstance will be there and you are in real trouble. See ya

The primary issue is this product can not generate sufficent revenues to finance a business model. Most start ups fail due to this reason. The amgens, biogens, cubists are the exceptions.

Those jumping from company to company. Have you thought about the implications for your career. When Durata implodes and MDCO downsizes future employers will question your judgment. Neither of these companies have a sustainable business model. Now if simply need a job I get it but it won't be long term. Also, if you can't sell branded antibiotics and the price that comes with it maybe you should do something else. This is the new reality.

the real issue is generic Zyvox - that's why Pfizer sold this product in the first place - nothing can compete with generic Zyvox.

at the end of the day, hospital pharmacists are ONLY interested in costs - they could care less bout patient outcomes.

all the toxicity issues will fade away when they can buy generic linezolid for $15 a day

if you thought generic vanc was tough to break the pharmacist of, try breaking them of generic linezolid

    game over

Cubist has a product that doesnt interfer with SSRI's and is only a 6 day course of QD oral therapy. While pharmacists do favor generic drugs there is a substantial population that will benefit.

generic linezolid will crush anything cubist has, adherence and convenient notwithstanding

don't you get it? hospital pharmacists only care about minimizing their cost silo in the current measurement period

Find something else to do - you dont get it. Cubicin is a billion dollar drug 1/2 in hospitals. Vanc costs 10.00 a day.

Horse$h!t. Tedezolid is already a me-too drug with zero advantages over what will be a generic and will always be second line. You can spout all of the SSRI and dosing advantages that you want, but generics will always win over a branded drug. As the other poster said, pharmacists only give a crap about their cost silo, and with a copycat like tedezolid, generic Zyvox will be the step-through for the branded life of tedezolid.

    "
This will be Optimer Pharmaceuticals Part II.

Stage I: Will start with a lot of fanfare and excitement, big promises. Hired guns ready to take on the world.

Stage II: Sales are dismal, a few will make great bonus but many will not. The blame game begins..... The company blames the sales force and claims that many of these hired guns are not as good as they expected and are a bunch of entitled pussies. The sales force blames the company for poor marketing, management, and pricing strategies. Both are correct. Slow uptake of antibiotics, healthcare reform, or poor access are also among the favorite excuses thrown out there.

Stage III: The company realizes that the sales force is costing more to operate than it brings in and the pressures increases on the sales force. Stock options are now under water and turnover becomes rampant and the cycle continues. The company scrambles to find a buyer as the cash begins to run out. Tic-toc tic-toc. Game over"

A month in and in and stage I I has already begun. Company is realizing that the hires they made are indeed a bunch of whining entitled pussies and the entitled pussies blame the company for not knowing what they are doing. Both sides regretting their choices.
