I would love to apply, but I was wondering what the typical background is for this position and whether or not I have the qualifications to be hired. I meet the qualifications as listed in the job description--just curious what type of person they typically hire for this position?

Please--serious replies only. I would love to work this position!

That's a good question. My background is a degree in Psychology and experience working at an in-pt treatment facility, plus years in pharma sales. I applied and HR never even contacted me. So, I am at a loss as to what they might be looking for...

Do any of you two have user experience ?

It will help if you write in your application that you have first-hand knowledge of the troubles of an addict...as you are fighting an opiate, tramadol, methylphenidate, alcohol, and valium addictions.

By the way, marijuana doesn't count....everyone here has been smoking weed for years...and we all can quit whenever we want,

Is this a decent position. I'm thinking of interviewing, but I'm not sure what I'm jumping into. Serious replies please. I'd like a bit more info on it, and yes…I have done some research online. Thanks

I have applied for this position and have not received a phone call yet. I realize that there are thousands of pharma. reps out there applying for jobs and I am not unrealistic. However, I do meet and exceed the qualifications listed in the job description. According to a previous poster, I should say that I am battling some addiction myself--is that actually true, or is that some bs?

Can someone please give me a heads up as to what type of individual they are looking to hire? Background, etc.? Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

By "battling an addiction myself" I didn't mean that I actually am battling an addiction, or that I ever have. I have, however, had a close family member who has battled a severe addiction throughout her entire life. Should I include this info. on my cover letter?

You need to start drinking a case of Budweiser followed by a case of Tequila. That is what we look for in our sales reps. Usually recent college graduates. They have lots of experience.

I have no idea but I suspect you'll need experience selling to clinics or hospitals for this product. I''d also figure out what type of product it will be (buy and bill or specialty pharmacy)? Reps who know how to talk to specialists as well as the extended treatment team (social workers, care managers) likely will be valued. If you've sold specialty products, you probably have a good shot.

Specialty Injectable experience, with buy and bill reimbursement.
Documented track record of success in a specialty sector - psych market preferred.

No one will give a crap how much you care about helping people or what personal demons you have fought.

    Sorry for the hard truth.

Wow, this couldn't be further from the truth, sorry you didn't get the job you intereviewed for, I truly am.

You obviously don't work here. Hardly any Vivitrol business is buy and bill. And I've never worked for a company that cared more about helping people or was more understanding of "personal demons." It's not perfect, but much better than most.

It always helps to mention why you are so passionate about getting this job. A family connection is important because we sell based on the fact that addiction destroys families and that lives are ruined.

A knowledge of buy and bill help tremendously. But, that you can learn in 30 online.

    Good luck!

Actually, I launched Vivitrol - but thank you for your concern.

It's been quite a while since I left, but at that time about 25% of my biz was buy and bill (major payer mandated), i suppose it has changed. I found it helpful to understand specialty pharmacy acquisition process and buy and bill - the dopes from Cephalon that had only sold pills were at a serious disadvantage.

Funny thing about working there was i found alot of my colleagues were really in need of a 16 gauge in the outer gluteal themselves.

Happily celebrating my 7th year free of opoids. I share my stories of living on the street as a heroin addict and how my life was transformed by Jesus. He lifted my spirits from the hell of addiction to a clean life as a reborn Christian. This has been the reason why I now am working with the Company - as a sales representative I can share the perspectives of each person dealing with the addiction challenge. I'll never inject again and helping others recover is my great passion in life. You may want to share your life story as part of the application and interview process as well.

yeah, i'm sure all that "jesus is my lord and savior" stuff goes over well in an interview and in offices. every time one of those proselytizing people come to my door, i always take a chunk of time out of my day to listen...

I know that the company does not support workers who are struggling with addiction or are in recovery. How do I know that: the rep in my area was struggling with alcoholism and the company fired him for it. They did not believe in treatment for employees.
I believe that this is also against federal law.

Are you sure that's why he was fired? There's probably more to the story than you know.
