anyone else asked to submit previous w2's for offer?

was just called by a recruiter for an opening here. anyone else asked to submit a w2. Ive never been asked that on any previous jobs. I was under the impression they just get it in background checks.

Id be leary to show such private information. they should just trust employees or pay what your years of experience and skillset are

 

They want yo verify your previous pay and make sure not to pay u too much.
