I remember in the 80s when Merck had the Midas touch...Everything was turning to
gold. as year after year, blockbuster after blockbuster, the company grew, prospered,
    and treated employees like royalty.

Flash forward, after the low hanging fruit got picked, and one disastrous CEO choice
after another, DTC advertising comes in and the whole industry turns to shi&T.

Mix in the greed, corruption, and utter stupidity of Merck management, and we get where
    we are today...

Snake Oil company, with lots of cash due to crazy high margins...

    FU MERCK!

Quiet. We have company cars! We have easy jobs! We idolize our children and our homes!

We would rather ignore all of this and live in comfort, while he stupid public eats this pills that cause more harm than good.

Which bred complacency. How much " selling " took place around: Vasotec, Prinivil, cozaar, Zocor, Fosamax, Singulair ... ?

The Merck reps I knew were some of the laziest, no selling, sample dropping, shiney shoes, platitude spewing, work avoiders ever. Many are still there. Some call themselves " 15" ers.

Ask any pathologist. Parasites are always the last to leave the dead, rotting corpse.

You didn't know any reps. You were that homeless, pathetic bum laying on the street that reps stepped over and used to throw change to out of pity. Now get off that computer in the public library your in and go beg for more change.

Pharma 'sales' (when you could actually call it that) has always been a mixture of snake oil salesmanship and science..Remember the old adage that science doesn't sell your product!..
Nothing wrong with the showmanship, relationships and some arm twisting to win the Rx!

The easy big money disease state drugs have all gone generic..Insurance and government are the gatekeepers and most importantly the folks who write the check to pay it all..you don't need an army of sales reps to call on your main customers (gov't and insurance plans)

Love this post. Save every penny if you are in this mess, because they will kick you out regardless of your numbers.

Managers in this industry should ask for forgiveness for stealing money from their employer as well. I mean making 125-175k for approving expense reports and sitting in the passenger seat for 20-30 hours a week is not work.

Pharma. is a fine tuned machine. Pay these fools good at the top, pretty good at the bottom, and let it roll. A fool is born every minute, and you new college grads are so easy to convince that this is a good industry, when the facts show it is a terrible "opportunity".

Why would a college student take advice about how bad a six-figure job is when these kids have student loans to pay back? The young people just suck it up and get on with life. It is a job.

This is a stupid thread. Success is simple:

Go to work 5 days a week 8 hours a day.
Follow the POA and use your iPad and resources smartly.
    Stay in compliance.
Respect leadership and remember they're psid to be the brains not you.

Do this every year and you'll win VP Club at least every 2-3 years and get good reviews whether you win or not.
If not then go away shut up and get out of our way.
