Adam and Dave Schechter a case of nepotism?

How can two siblings work together in senior management and report in to the same line of management? Assume that in a public traded company this is deemed as a direct conflict of interest and makes it difficult for others who manage Dave knowing that his brother Adam is their boss....a case of nepotism?

It's called the downfall of a great company. There are many brothers, sisters, and wife's that work here. It's a easy way to get crappy employees. You are not getting the best workers. Many companies don't allow spouses to work for that reason.

    You must be kidding.
We have great value from the same genius gene pool.
Now we have 2 genius minds working together to save Januvia and the company.

You must be wrong, David is not a 'dumdass' afteral he is the global VP for Januvia Merck's flagship product. Unless of course you think nepotism is in play?

It's a case of two empty suits whom I wouldn't trust beyond sight.

And the problem is not only with Adam in paving the way for his incompetent brother, but more so with the rest of Merck management who has tolerated this for so many years and for so many moves.

It is not only a question of favoritism but how everything breaks down. Who would dare disagree or go up against Dave? It would be suicidal. So that's how bad decisions are made and stay unchallenged...

Merck is a family company so it makes sense to have a brother on board. We live in a world of conflicts.

David was not even a good CTL. Half his district quit on him and many, many customers refused to see him. Absolute punk. Previous post is right on...no other company would put up with this absurdly inappropriate situation.

Merck is a God damn embarrassment. Adam is a coddled rich kid. I don't see him as nasty (David is a punk)...but Adam has no right being where he is. His track record is nonexistent. This company is a farce. Take their money, start a business on the side and join the gravy train. After 20+ years of trying to do the right thing...I will be fooled no longer about the inability to contribute and have a meaningful career at merck.

The company vision is nonexistent. The ethical currency is corrupt. It is every man/woman for themselves...all sucking the blood of what was formerly a good place to work.

    Like they say...Be well...

This practice is so unfair when many of the employees are going to be separated. There is no meritocracy at Merck. It is shamefully emerging as a corrupt organization.

The company has no integrity ... they steal from employees to pay the C sweats!! And is you are let go this year you will also not get the extra 60 days from the warn act. The company has all these downsizing efforts through out the year but segments them in small groups so they never annouce number to the federal govt. Look up the site you will see for yourself. WARN ACT .... So steal from the poor to pay the rich... another example!

Did Merck have integrity when it hired thousands of reps to "increase share of voice" to match the competition, and then had so many promoting the same products that MDs refused to see them? Merck reps were tripping over one another.

How dehumanizing to focus on quantity vs. quality.
And it cost millions to implement this ill-conceived strategy.

Now they're whacking the head count right and left. Who knows who's next? Does this management team realize that reps with no sense of a future will not deliver or go the extra mile? Why bother working hard, when you could be in tomorrow's trash?

Either way, it shows a wanton disregard for what should be a company's treasured resource---its employees.

    Don't change the subject... nepotism

Surely Adam must have felt pressure at some point about protecting his useless brother but family came first when he realized Dave would be a complete failure in another company

The federal law handbook of conduct states...You may not appoint, employ, or promote a relative to a position in the Department, or advocate a relative for appointment, employment, promotion or advancement.

Hey it's a family affair. So what if Dave gets better raises and promotions. Adam is being a good brother. Right!

FYI....not to worry brother Dave your job, benefits, including salary and bonus are protected.

Even though we just announced a cost-saving initiative which will see it cut 8,500 positions including 7500 previously announced cuts. It hopes to cut annual operating expenses by $2.5 billion by the end of 2015.

My love for you and our family is of greater value than the 16000 cuts.
