The culture of never ending layoffs!

If you are looking at coming to Novartis to work take a minute to consider how many good folks have been laid off by this company over the past 5 years. Then ask yourself why that might have happened. Sure some of the changes were legit and the structure needed updating. But, for the majority of the most current "right sizing" Novartis has implemented a "just lay everybody off within a division to avoid litigation". Novartis has zero investment in creating a culture that values people. I'm sure they like to think they do but the proof is in the pudding. Look at how they treat people. Ask around and check the pulse of the sales force you might be working with and you will find a bunch of unhappy people wondering when the hatchet will fall on them. Maybe someone in leadership will read this but doubtful. It must take an extremely special person to implement all of this head-count reduction with the mentality of looking forward to 2015! Funny thing is leadership thinks they are safe but eventually when single payor is fully instituted within our government they will have a chance to evaluate their behavior during the past few years. In closing if this was something that occurred every few years it might be more acceptable but to constantly lay off solid people and whole divisions year after year after year just seems souless to me. So take this advice or ignore it you have been warned. No job is safe ultimately but some are safer than others and this company is not one of the safe ones I'm sorry to say.

Good post. And it's going to be difficult to listen to all the BS at the meeting in Feb. I hope leadership knows they are hated, not trusted, seen as imbeciles who have no connection with reality, arrogant, self righteous, jerks. The reps are miserable with NPC leadership. They suck and have for years.

Its sad to see whats happened over the last several years to this place. We went from being the most respected pharma companies in the industry by physicians, the office staff, and even all of the other Pharma the Reps/Managers. They all said how great they thought our company was and everyone wanted to come here. Even our customers wanted jobs for there kids here. Our leadership was strong and there was mutual respect among all. Now we have come so far from that, its embarrassing to even work here. We are the laughing stock of the industry by the same people mentioned above and even by our family members. I cant believe how bad it is.

2014 was a special year. Never in my life have I seen a single company have 3 layoffs in that same year! Never! And now I hear the CF team is being laid off too!? This place is at the bottom. The problem isn't the sales force. Its marketing, sales leadership and R&D. You give good sales people good products that customers value and watch what happens.

Novartis is the titanic. senior level leadership is to blame for all the failures, yet they always make it onto the lifeboats while the rest get let go. Complete farce.

And the "what inspires you?" Homework for the meeting. Bahaha I'd like to say that what inspires me "Is the constant hope that NPC will wake up and that smart good people get power in this company and current leadership gets shown the door".

Post is right on in terms of leadership. It certainly seemed to be an "admired" company when I started 10 years ago, but 2014 has been a year in which new LOWs have been reached. Although none of us should be surprised after the sudden NP layoff of a team of 110 on 12/22, leadership is still able to produce shock and awe. The CF Team had 19 specialists, and all 19 were laid off to open up 25 new CF KAM positions. (yes-New title is RESP KAM but weighed 70% CF) They may apply for their own jobs IF there is a new position posted in their geography AND if there isn't one of the 3 CF KAMS or 1 of the 5 Zolair KAMS in their geography who were automatically mapped. (regardless of experience in CF) Why not map the 22 (or 15 even?) CF folks and open up the remaining positions? The process itself has to be a huge expense (interviewing/training) and it CERTAINLY wasn't done to benefit the customer having mapped only 3 with any CF experience into the 25 slots. Good luck to the ones who get the chance to apply for their own jobs... you may want to take the money and RUN!
