What the press release didn't reveal

In a recent press release titled "Impax Announces R&D Reorganization Designed to Yield Process Improvements and Efficiencies" the company failed to state that it had also fired/downsized the VP of Sales and Marketing (Shawn Fatholahi), the Eastern Regional Sales Director (Tom Ciampa) and four Regional Business Managers, from the brand division.

This is the type of information that is key to the shareholders of this company and underlines the failures of the sales leadership of the brand division. The division, that has had no direct sales representatives of its own since it started in 2008 (it utilizes a contract sales force provided by inVentiv) has struggled to sell products not developed or owned by Impax. Its internal R&D has failed to bring its only internal product, Rytary, to market for the last two years, due to FDA non-approvable letters.

There is more dead wood to weed out, but if Rytary is not approved in January, it spells doom for the whole division. Financially, the generics division cannot support this type of money wasting by its incompetent brand management.

Getting a product through the FDA approval process requires a combination of skill, luck and persistence.

Luck you can't do anything about. Skill is not improved by layoffs and shake-ups, no mater that these dramatic events might please Wall Street. Persistence is very important over the long term.

Brand management was not particularly incompetent, in my opinion, and was improving before the layoffs. Layoffs do not improve scientific competency - they hurt it because real scientists are able to admit error, and error can be a political death sentence in the sort of highly political environment layoffs create. The best scientists leave during layoffs, and the best office politicians stay- and that can be a death sentence for a project, to have highly political people with little respect for the truth running it.

It's easy to call someone else incompetent. Only experience, skill and persistence can get a drug through the FDA approval process. The FDA makes drug approval a tremendously difficult and uncertain process, and only a very competent team, acting in a non-political environment, with a lot of experience and stability can succeed without depending on luck.

Rolling heads out of frustration does not help.

These moves were overdue. Got rid of phonies and a fathead. Heard the runners club is looking for a new leader. Wonder if the nard dog will take us to paintball or maybe go carts?

I'll take some of that back.
I actually do feel bad for the good people that were let go.
    Fathead was not good.
Nard dog rules! Hope he plays his banjo at the next POA!

    There won't be another POA.

Why no POA? We should be training on Parkinsons. We need to be prepared in order for Rytary to be launced successfully.

I work at Inventiv in home office. MS is again trying to come back here. Apparently he is desperate.

Hopefully, the bridges he burned will remain that way. It is disgraceful the way he acted to inVentiv people after he moved over. Having said that, he did learn from the master, Fathead.

Leave the nard dog alone-he is one of us. Not someone who thinks they are so smart. He is doing his job trying to survive like the rest of us in this phony industry.

I do hope that Rytary is approved. We'll know soon.

Like most layoffs, a lot of meat went out with the fat. The people that remained are not necessarily better- they are just better at making themselves look good and criticizing others - and some really key people were lost. Some centers of bad judgement and inability to admit error remain, IMO.

Brand R&D was on the right track - now if probably isn't. If they want some progress over there, they will need to admit error (CEOs generally don't do that, IMO) and rebuild what they have destroyed.

Good luck to us, but Rytary approval is not necessarily a done deal. Some of the people necessary to deal with the next round of FDA objections, if any, were lost in the layoff. I'm aware of the deadline, but the fact the decision is being delayed right down to the deadline is in itself not a good sign, IMO.

Mike S says to "believe in the Impax vision!". His pep talks are so wonderful! Funny thing is he gave this very same pep talks at Endo and InVentiv. This clown is so phony it is hilarious. he could only exist in the Emperor's New Clothes industry of pharma. LOL

Hey-the Nard dog is a true leader and we should implement his new ideas for 2015.
Company uniforms with lots of bling!
Company fight song to boost morale.
Managers - virtual ride alongs using face time to save money.
Switch entire fleet to smart cars to save on gas.
Have the Geiko switch accents to a southern twang to make us feel smarter.

Fred finally got smart and figured out the big issues and got rid of Fathole and Chumpa. Both nasty individuals who had seriously reached their level of incompetence. He's only sticking with Shafranski until he finds a suitable replacement. Shafranski is begging inVentiv to get back over there. The good news is that they have him figured out too. He burned a lot of bridges when he joined Impax by acting like Fathole. Wrong move, Mikey.

Stick with Mike S. at your own peril. Several managers like him need to be severed too - a few in the south and midwest. Remove the dead wood and Impax might amount to something.
