Got an e-mail from a recruiter about GSK launching a new diabetes drug in April. Is this product expected to be received well?

Anything short of a cure for cancer will be a "failure to launch!" It's irrelevant what the drug treats or how much the "street" is anticipating it. In this current company culture and with our Patient First model failure is all but assured. Add to that unethical and immoral actions on the part of the company towards whole groups of people/employees and many us are simply collecting our paychecks while we methodically look for another company to join.

Currently unemployed. Had no idea morale at GSK is this bad. But then, most threads on CafePharma reflect disillusionment.

What is the "Patient First" model, and why does it fail?

Found out the new drug is albiglutide. Anyone have any thoughts on the drug itself?

Don't waste your time with Diabetes with GSK.. This new drug has no ETA of FDA approval and they contracted with Inventiv for the launch.

YES, this product is expected to be received well in the minds of the sycophants that are our corporate leaders!

Do your due diligence on PubMed and with Endocrinologists! You will find that GSK leadership find reality far to complex to be of any use!

All positions will be contract for this launch.

If you are thinking about joining GSK and have other options, go with the other company. While GSK is a large organization there are a lot of issues that are imbedded in the corporate culture that won't go away. Patient first is a method of "selling" that was put upon us by the Department of Justice. Affirmative action is the norm. Women are promoted despite lack of experience or qualification. Just like in A Few Good Men...GSK "can't handle the truth"! Any feedback that is not in alignment with managements philosophy is discredited or completely ignored. You will be taking brutal tests that in the company's own words are designed to be extremely difficult. Then you are forced ranked on this system. It is not good over here. It's a job and I and many of us are grateful for that. But the company makes everything else very difficult. You have been warned.

Poster #7 is right on the money with their advice. If you are a sales person, you will be miserable at GSK. There is nothing even closely resembling sales anymore at GSK. Pursue it if you are desperate for a job. Money and benefits will be pretty good. Culture, morale, and motivation will be the worst or near the worst you have ever experienced. You will have little control over your bonuses.

It is a great job for someone that wants to check a box and have little to speak of in terms of professional engagement and being challenged in any meaningful way. GSK's ship is sinking as good place for a sales professional to work. Aside from that, it is a large company with many products that have been recently approved, or are waiting for FDA approval. Few of these products, however, are geared for the general pharmaceuticals division.

The blame of the culture lies with upper management. They sold their souls for a few stock options and a few extra bucks. It doesn't have to be this way. We need leadership!!! We need someone with a pair of balls to get up and explain to AW that this system will be his legacy. It's not working and anyone who says differently has their head in the sand.

OP here. Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply. Very valuable info. The pickings are slim for the unemployed, tenured rep. Everyone is hiring young "hotties", who also cost less. It's a shame what this industry has turned into...on so many levels. Good luck to all.

very hard to believe any of the tooth achingly sweet drivel about how much they knew they would get, and how much they appreciate the honest feed back about a yet-to-be-launched drug here on CP.....please, do your due diligence is right... anyone looking for hand outs here should get hand outs: BS! Most of these threads are riddled with bottom feeding CI crawlers, that are having trouble into faking there way into a real interview.... actually a misnomer, because it's not real, it's a con game, if truth was told, both parties would be aware one is on a competitive inteligence contrat , and both would get paid for the work, not in their world, they never honestly identify themselves, and they keep every cent...love reading their posts on here in desperation, where they try so hard to look needy and genuine

is it just me, or does this also make no sense to anyone reading it?

Desperation? Trying to look needy and genuine? I have no idea where you are coming from.

Okay...the salary range is 60-90K. The HUGE downside is that you will be required to take the STUPID A _ _ tests and simulations just like the GSK reps. My suggestion is stay away from this Pathetic company. This is the Worst Pharma Company.

They will be doing interviews the end of April. Possibly in TX. GSK would be the last resort company that anyone would want to be involved with. The testing and simulations are like living thru HELL. Only apply if you like having NO life, stress, mega hours, and anything but trust, respect, integrity and what GSK calls patient first. GOOD LUCK.

If you have less than 4 yrs pharma experience and get an interview, go for it. If nothing else it will give you interviewing exp and you can decide from there. The morale is def t all time loos I'm the field among reps. But times are tough and if you have a famil to support with no other options its something. Good luck and take the warnings seriously!
