    Anyone else noticing that we don't get as much time with specialists as in the past? Do you think the Primary Care access issues will come to impact SP reps as well?

    If you have no new products to offer, are discussing old drugs, and bring no value, specialists don't see the benefit of seeing you during their busy days. They've seen multiple drugs get pulled off the market, watched controversial clinical data revealed, and read of multi-million dollar pharma fines for illegal marketing. They are tired of "sales pitches", TV commercials, competitors bashing each other, and slanted sales aids that show one product superior in one study and the other in another, so they don't know who to believe.

    They've built relationships with reps over the years only to see constant turnover of reps, and now feel like they have little connection with the bulk of reps. The reps who used to be able to talk scientific data with them have been replaced by reps who can't engage in any meaningful discussion (often d/t pharma rules). Their loyalty to companies has diminished since the generic revolution in addition to rep turnover, and they've been forced to write whatever is cheapest for their patients. They are also told by colleagues and pharmacists to get their pharmaceutical knowledge from objective sources and not reps.

    Face it, they've seen it all and have become burned out from the whole mess, they just want to get out of work on time and have a life.

    Cue is the problem, nothing less, nothing more. Let us talk to the customer like human being and use a clinical paper

    Specialty reps are really nothing more than a primary care rep. Those I see promoted into these roles are there due to relationships within the company and not due to merit.

    So true that specialty reps with Pfizer are no different from the primary care division. I've been in both and what is so funny is that the folks in the specialty sales forces continue to inflate their egos by thinking that they are truly special. Give me a break!

    Also there have been overbearing RMs, who didn't value relationships or product knowledge and would promote newer, younger reps to specialty positions who never sold the products and or worked in the territory. The reps didn't show a genuine interest in building relationships with customers, lacked confidence, had no credibility, couldn't discuss multiple studies with physicians, didn't know the nurses, hospital or insurance connections, and this bad business practice burned a lot of bridges for the company.

    I agree you covered the probloem accurately and completely. I would not say it is the best post but it was very good.
