How much power does Stryker Corporate hold over Stryker Distributorships?

Stryker tries to dictate what their distributors carry, but I don't think they have the ability to make them do as they please. There are Stryker distributors that carry any product they want and Stryker corporate can't do shit about it.

True, so long as the product does not compete w any Stryker product.

I'm not sure that's true. If Stryker launches a new product that is worse than the product the distributor is currently carrying you think the distributor will abandon it because Stryker tells them to? Not if they are making decent headway (and money) with the product!

It all depends on the size of the distributor. The top 5 distributors drive the strategy and tell Stryker what the will and wont carry. Spine division at stryker is in no position to dictate to the top 5. Basically they are reduced to bullying the little guy to flex their muscle.

name one. If this were true, every stryker distributor would be selling Tornier tsa/reverse.

Its part of their distributor agreement

That's crap. What would Stryker so if the distributor went against the contract... Fire them? I doubt it. It would coat Stryker too much $$ to recruit and start with a new distributor.

What will Stryker spine distributors who carry Apatech have to do now that Stryker bought Ortho Vita?

If the distributor is dumb enough to jeopardize there main line for some ancillary product, they deserve to be cut loose.

They aren't bone graft distributors looking to pick up something, so they pick up Stryker. Stryker put them in business.

Do you work in this industry???

Ok genius... Do you think it's easy for Stryker to find a distributor with the infrastructure, the knowledge, the capacity and the relationships? It's a two way street. For a good distributor many companies would dump their current representation for an upgrade. The distributors have more power than you think, Stryker can't just walk away from the revenue, especially from a good distributorship. Ultimately Stryker will fold, really it depends on the size, quality and performance of the distributor. For someone good, Stryker will remain flexible to keep them.

You don't 'get a distributorship from Stryker', you hostile-ly take over a current one.

Easy to get a VP level job at Stryker. They have pretty much no talent. Look at the quality of the AVP's and O'Brien. That accounts for the 2% sales growth.
