We have compliance people not because we don't have motivated, educated, high achievers that get run over by a bus every day as few doctors spend time, and then the 10 sec. call we call a success. When you get beat up everyday, making your first call at 8am doesn't make you more successful in this business. That is not why we have compliance people. We are not the thieves because we drive around in our car because no one spends meaningful time with us.

We have compliance people because Regional managers gave ace points and had contest for setting up protocols in hospitals for unapproved indications. Then asking/directing Medical liaisons to sell our drugs for unapproved indications. Then sponsoring "CME" symposia in multiple cities for unapproved indications. Sending out multiple communications to the field teaching them about papers that help them sell products for unapproved indications and telling them it's FYI so you have the information. Holding dinner programs so as we say.. want to put some money in speakers pocket so we can get scripts (in essence a kickback). Giving reps a quota that includes it's use for all indications, approved and not.

Therefore, the Government charged us 2+ Billion dollars for setting up a culture of non compliance. Don't blame the field for our compliance issues.

This is so true. The more educated and motivated you are the less happy you are with this job. We do this initially because we think we will make a difference. The reality is that our doctors don't have the time or patience to listen to us due to time constraints. What are we to do at this point? Tell the truth and say that we had 2-3 "real" interactions with our customers or claim to make 8-10 "calls" per day. If you feel this is mind-numbing (and it can be) then move on. For the rest of us (THE MAJORITY) we should go out and check the boxes and tell management what they want to hear. Cause you can do all the right things and STILL BE LAID OFF, so the loyalty ends here.

2-3 "real calls per day" sounds like we need 50 - 75% less reps calling on docs...

Idiot. We have to go to 10-12 offices just to have 2-3 meaningful interactions.

I agree we do not need less reps. It takes so many calls to accounplish 3 to 4 meaningful calls per day. Maybe we need less uppermanagement that accomplish nothing most of the time. Maybe, Pharma needs to pay their CEOs, CFO and lawyers a lot less and only for positive performance without laying masses of people off just so they can make a targeted profit.

Reps are becoming less then just a number. They do all the work selling and get the least amount of return.

So your saying it's cost effective to pay reps $70,000 - $110,000 per year for 3 - 4 meaningful calls a day. Great business model! Do you see the writing on the wall?? In case you haven't noticed- upper management is getting let go also. The whole damn industry is going down the toilet!!

It was cost effective 10 years ago to pay reps 80K to make 4 calls per day, because formularies were wide open, now it's not effective to pay reps 100K to see 2 doctors per day. Not to mention that the 2 calls you make you are fighting access issues with manage care making those calls even less effective. Upper management knows reps are a waste they just can't figure out another way to effectively digitally sell our medicine. Not to mention the layers of leadership are dependent on the sales layer to keep their jobs. #bytheballs
