As the old saying goes, Pfizer got the gold mine and we got the shaft. You would think Pfizer was in dire straits with all the cuts they have made. I guess that's why they got the gold mine. You can rest assured all those stock options going to Ian and Frank reflect the profit Pfizer makes.

Do you mean getting paid $20 million for 1.5 hours of acting in a movie? Or do you mean getting $20 million a year for playing a game like baseball? Or do you mean getting billions of dollars for putting together a cheesey internet social networking site like facebook? Or do you mean making millions of dollars for having someone ghost write books for you like the Obamas? Or getting paid near a million dollars per 1 hour speech all year long like both Clintons?

Why don't all you liberal/leftist haters out there pool your trillions of dollars you made too much of and purchase Pfizer? Then you could give all the drugs away at cost or a loss? It's not like you need all of that profiteered cash you all sit on?

Finally, do you mean when you invest in the stock market and make a 25% annual gain that you give most away because that's too much? Or you sell at a much lower price than the going share price?

Or in 2003-2006 when you sold your house for well over a 200% profit, you declined and only sold it for a feel good socialist 5% profit?

Your illogic and hypocrisy is "when how much is too much"!

Funny but true in a way. Samo, samo for the corporate billionaires and Mitch Mc Chins who inherited cocaine money (just like the Kennedys inherited alcohol money). We don't have 2 parties, we have 2 wings of the same party playing the shell and pea game to keep our minds off of reality. The last 2 presidents have been the worst ever and each is from a different party/ Six of one, half dozen of another.

America is a county created for the benefit of the rich and in 2014 income inequity has never been higher. The rich have gotten much richer since the Great Recession and with the new right-wing extremist Congress you can be sure LOTS more money will be flowing right into their pockets.

All the crap legislation from the House that was being buried in the Senate will now be speeded to the White House by the Senate. I hope Obama signs every bit of it just to teach a good lesson to all those stupid bastards who voted Republican.

Ummm idiot.....your rich getting richer are almost all democrats and friends of obummer and all occurred under his watch and even with a 2 house majority democrat for 2 years. Keep reading the democrat propaganda playbook. I believe it's placed under that ostrich's head under the ground and then 5 feet up obummer's ass.

The problem is greed and factionalism. Big corporations need to understand that wealth ultimately must be shared more equitably. Lefties need to understand big corporations must make money to survive. The US no longer has half of an unexplored continent to develop. Did that 100 years ago. Nothing left to develop, at least when it comes to land resources. Easy growth is over. The US no longer is the only country that has a highly efficient and productive workforce. Lots more are in the game. The future is in innovation--new products and services that no on else has but will pay for. If we don't get our shit together with educating the workforce of tomorrow, we're the UK. Once great. Now average. Everyone needs to give a shit about this and pull together. The rich can get more rich, but in 40 years it may not matter if the entire country goes to hell.

Some good points. However, the US has so many natural resources it's unbelievable. Just the oil from our shale alone could keep us in oil for centuries.

The US has fallen due to our leadership for about 90 years since the first communist in chief, woodrow wilson, put us last and only cared about themselves and the rest of the world. The present administration has done this at an exponentially higher rate as it is their entire reason for existence. They just create pretty euphemisms like "hope and change" and "fundamental transformation" and "redistribution of wealth".

When the Progressives, a la Wilson, then even G.H. Bush, demanded a "new world order" they meant America last. And the last 90 years or so of their running things have turned out true.

Half of the repubs and 99% of the democrats are just progressives/leftists hiding their true identities. The only reason they pretend to fight is because so many of them want to have the power for themselves and be in charge. Akin to 2 leftists like Hitler and Stalin hating each other but having the same plans for the world. Or the catholics vs. the protestants, both christians but fought for power.

Do some research. Look at your salary/net worth as compared to everyone else in your state. If you're not in one of the high cost/expense states like NY/Calif/Mass -you may not be in the top 1%, but you're probably in the top 15-20%. If you have a long enough career in this industry, don't piss your money away and live within your means (or put it up your nose), invest in the 401K and on your own, don't buy more of a house than you really need, you will live a pretty good life as compared to others. Middle class gets squeezed by both parties. The very rich, the poor and illegals tend to make out. Poor and illegals pay no taxes and get services, the super wealthy pay taxes but hide money pretty well. IT WILL NEVER CHANGE-no matter what party is in power. Nancy Pelosi the queen bee of the Democrats is not exactly living paycheck to paycheck. All politicians are wealthy or become wealthy while/after they are in office. Think about it.

Great points again. But your biggest mistake is asking the sycophants to "think about it". They rarely change their minds so don't confuse them with the facts.

Where I live the lower middle class household income for a family of 4 with 2 kids, both parents working is $38,000 year minus taxes. They do not qualify for any social services. They have home, food, auto, medical expense like you and I.

A single mother of 3 kids - mom doesn't work, gets free house, food stamps, free medical and boyfriend doesn't work but lives in the government rent free home. Everything free equals $32,000 a year.

Basically even money and mom sleeps to noon. Although these free government services don't really impact the federal budget, it impacts the lower and lower middle class attitude about working and being productive in society. This is our future problem - entitlement growing more and more. You and I pay for these free loaders and most people really don't realize how much is given to these people.

Why are you so insecure? You turn the fact that the ELT received millions in stock and compensation while laying off hundreds into a political debate (and not a good one). Let me point out the obvious slick, if you don't like Tom Cruise making 20m don't go to his movie. If you aren't a fan of LeBron making 20 million don't support the Cavs. If you don't like your friends or family getting laid off from Pfizer what do you do? quit? Also, I'm a shareholder in Pfizer and that ownership position gives me the right to say "fuck no, you make too much."

I've said this before, the income our leadership makes is far to disproportionate to the avg. wages paid within the organization. Is this a Dem/Rep thing, NO!! It's a business thing. If the ELT siphons off all Pfizer's cash in the form of stock buy backs after awarding themselves 10's of millions in stock grants and options I have a problem with that. Why is that so hard to comprehend. I want the company to invest in long term infrastructure that will increase my stock value because the company is successful, not by short term gimmicks.

I'm proud to say I voted Rep. and my State will be voting with the new Senate majority. I've always been and always been a Conservative. But I'm not an overly opinionated ass who likes to blame, belittle or marginalize anyone who shares a different belief.

Like I said. The problem with America is factionalism.

There are problems to solve. Do it. Calling every democrat a communist is just stupid and avoids the task at hand: analyzing a problem AND developing a solution for it. I'm democrat who would seriously consider abolishing corporate tax altogether to make the US a magnate for business (and jobs). That's a legitimate policy debate. Just as is a living wage for the average worker, and corporate leadership that engages in the time-honored communist principle of rewarding themselves with huge bonuses for no value. (Money should be earned.) Don't tell me Mitt Romney is a businessman. He's a venture capitalist with one obligation: ROI for his investors. Period. How does that business model help America? Mitt's record on net job growth is poor. Apple, Google, Microsoft--those are businesses that create value. Big difference. I loathe the former. Love the latter. You're a small business man that needs a tax break? I'm all for it. If you're a company creating wealth in America. I'm with you. The problem is, the same guys who are good for business now feel compelled to adopt the right-wing fantasies of their big ticket donors. Tough to swallow the whole pill. The battle between Republicans and Democrats isn't over right and wrong, it's over which party doles out goodies to its base. That's all it is. Eventually, the radical middle of this country needs to get pissed enough to get involved and elect leaders who can govern.

The problem is you cannot keep taxing the working people of this country; it is totally out of hand. Yes, we need a social safety net but when our borders are not secure and 2,500 more kids come to wherever that impacts the taxpayers and it is not addressed. Will these kids with no relatives here finish high school (which is still "free" in this country) and graduate or will they become burdens to society? Many will, unfortunately, with no parental guidance. You can figure out yourself what the future can potentailly hold.

The bottom line in this country is that there really is no Red or Blue, it's all Green.
Money is what its all about. Politicians want to be politicians for one reason.....money, THIER money! They could give a crap about representing their constituents,; they represent themselves! They'd all kiss a monkey's ass if it could vote for them.

The Dems pander to the "poor" and the Repubs to who the hell knows, to get their votes. All self-serving hypocrites. In most cases the one who spends the most MONEY wins.

What we voters need to do is to forget party and vote for what WE believe, NOT for the least of the two evils. Its very sad and disgusting that in most elections, be it for the president of the US or for dog catcher in Podunk, we have so little to choose from and have to exercise our vote for the one that stinks the least. Wish someone had the answer for that.

Finally a decent thread on CP. Problem with a 2 party system is you get no choice. But since the two parties are each a money making business that own the political franchise, I don't see it changing much if at all. Think BCS 10 yrs ago.

Few can run for office anymore. Too many skeletons. I know I couldn't, and I know I could do a much better job than most.

The current political system reminds me of Jerry McGuire. When the DNC is seeking candidates they send the charismatic agent into the candidates home and hustles em. Something like this: do it for your country, do it for your family and your state, the avg senatorial freshman steps into offices with a net worth of $400k and leaves office 6 years later worth $4m. 5 years later you'll be worth $12m. What do you think, sign here.
