This is the most absurd post on this site. Everyone knows that the employment situation is being grossly distorted by the government. Unemployment and underemployment is the norm. People who have expired UI are not being counted for the data. New jobs, but not high paying. Less high level jobs out there. Getting 2 jobs part time is more the norm for anyone attempting to meet their former salary. If not 2 jobs or consulting without benefits then expect a major cut in income after a long search for a similar position. It takes many months of searches, sending resumes, networking, interviewing and digging for the gold. Scaling back on who you are, what you made, education level can actually help you. It does prevent the scare away factor...

All jobs below upper management ( including middle management) are now part-time and temporary. They are the dealers we are the cards. The cards are dealt out on an "as needed" basis. There is no such thing as a " career" job any longer. For the versatile, skilled worker this can actually work to your advantage and make you more marketable. If you're not, you fall by the wayside. If you have only sold Singulair and hid out in a " super-cluster" delivering lunch and a speaker program now and again, then you are not in high demand. Anyone can do or be trained to do what you do. If you have performed well in several different therapeutic areas and have experience in diverse markets ( institutional, retail, speciality, hospital, VA's, IHS, DOD, etc. etc,) you are highly marketable, trainable, and from their viewpoint, expendable. You are a PRN employee, move in and out. You work, perform, move on. It is actually liberating. You are no longer shackeled by that silly ethic known as " loyalty." You do your job move to the next project. But you cannot be complacent or lazy. You always have to be looking for the next opportunity and there's the rub. Many reps are too lazy to put in this kind of effort.
Blame corporate America or Wall Street or Obama or the Wizard of Oz. It's just the way things are now, your feelings are irrelevant. It's not right, it's not wrong , it just is.

The job market will never be what is was because things are very different for many different reasons.

There was an economist interviewed on Squawk Box yesterday who was waxing poetic about how great the labor market is in the U.S.

Is anyone feeling this "Great Rebound" in the job market?

Correct! Working at half the pay.
But gee. they they top it with some sweet compliments about your skills and smarts.

Great way to top off your career...
Allows you a tryout on using your 401K to offset the crappy income.

If you think its a breeze getting a new (well paying) gig...you're in for some big surprises.
Unless you have someone pulling strings to get you an advantage, it is tough going...
Prepare your life for some changes to ease the transition....

Some reps make 140k base / year. Sounds like a great industry to be in!

Where? That is a needle in a haystack!
Most recruiters are offering 80s-90 as a high end.

In my last ten years at Merck never made less then 250k per year, salary plus bonus, and that is not counting lots of stock options. When you work hard the rewards are there for the taking.

DCO level is what you are quoting.

Most managers pull in about 150-175K.

Reps well under 100K to 135K.

Depends how many years the rep has in for those higher than $125,000 base; then they want to get rid of you anyway because you are too old at 60 or too expensive.
