What do they do to the new DMs at DM Training?

We had a guy who seemed really nice, enthusiastic, realistic...seemed like someone who could really motivate our district. He came back from DM training and is a real a-hole now! What's up?

I've seen it, too. They are re-programmed. Maybe it's out of fear of reprisal from the ABD if they don't do as exactly told? Maybe it's that they are truly brainwashed into thinking micro-managing and acting like a ruthless ruler to get respect are the only way to manage? My guess it's both.

Also, in my experience, usually one fucker backstabbing rep ruins it for a cool DM, so they have to become pricks across the board. No favoritism for fear of being sued and treating some differently than others. The only person they can be true dicks to now, with no fear of lawsuits, are white males. Unless the manager is a female, then it's white females.

Sometimes, the a-hole lightens up over time. They learn what they can get away with and what they can't. Just stay out of their way and make their job easy. Let them know they are the boss. Feed them this crap. It's part of your job, if you want to keep it. The new DM are looking to make their own teams. If they don't like you, you'll be chased out. Stay the course and you'll see the changes. Sadly, it is usually after 2-3 years.

It's called COACHING. We watch a really great video on great classic coaches such as Woody Hayes and Bob Knight, in DM training. So go back to work before I hammer you upside the head or box in your ears!

New Dm's are programmed to believe that each and every rep is out to take advantage of them and the company.
They are also programmed to believe that the District would cease to function without their leadership, and sales would drop to ZERO if they don't act like little Hitlers right out of the gate.
"You're in charge now, and by the way, your new team is robbing the company blind! Go catch them! Show them who's boss. Break them down and build them back up." Yada, yada, yada...

On the other hand, they actually may have been the ones "stealing" from the company while they were reps, and will be damned if anyone pulls the same shit on their watch!

The process they are going through basically helps them to be better coaches. Its tough, especially when you are new, so I think that it will take some time until they really fit into their roles. I would give them a break...I heard that DMs just recieved a new tool that will help them to be better coaches. It covers a ton of information eliminating the need for the millions of reports they currently get....I heard there are plans for us to get rep level reports / scorecards as well. I've seen my DMs version of the tool and it looks good. Looking forward to it.
