This is a serious news report from the idiots at FOX. It should be noted that the "secret site' they are talking about is cesspool of 15 year olds that post hentai and whack off all day, but they don't mention that.

I wondered if I should tell you guys that you should be laughing at this because frankly, you're a paranoid, ignorant lot that would normally be terrified at this story.

Amazing what these little asshole 15 year olds can do.

At a family party last weekend, I eavesdropped on my 17 y.o. and a bunch of his friends talking about how they can sit in a Starbucks (or any wireless place) and type something in their computer which changes the person's homepage?? When the person returns to their homepage, up pops some gay sex site or something..I probably have this wrong. But the jist of it is they can hack into people's computers in a wireless setting.

Anybody familiar with these shananigans? I should have eavesdropped more closely.

It's really not that easy to be honest. I'm not too hip on what teenage hackers are doing, but really you can't just take over a computer like that at an open wireless location.

A friend of mine is a former e-hoodlum turned legitimate programmer and he still has to restrain himself when in the presence of an unsecured wireless network (private). I really don't know what he can do, but apparently the person wouldn't like it too much. The good news is it's easily traceable, which in all honestly is the only thing that stops him I think.

Ok..just asked my husband..he was apparently listening more closely than I last weekend. He said that the kids can tap into a, "wireless router and intercept the traffic going through it somehow and then reroute it."

No Huggy, not a website. We're talking about their router and using that to gain control of their computer. You'd be surprised how many people don't secure their wireless networking (at home). I'd say at least half judging on what I have alone noticed around my neighborhood.

I have never had a pop up ever since I have been using Firefox. How is this possible if you guys get them? I used to get all kinds of stuff when using IE. I don't even know what the hell you guys are talking about regarding Spybot, etc. I am sort of scared to find out what I have hidden on this computer.

I am always surprised too. My wireless has gone down a couple times and I just tap into the neighbors. THey have a shared network on their iTunes that popped up on mine, once I logged into their network and I browsed their music (they have really shitty taste - I was surprised).

I am going to get this wrong because this is not my area of expertise, but think I read once that when people do set up their wireless network, that the inital admin password for a lot of routers is "password" and many people don't change this part of the equation. So it is possible somehow to log into the IE page that is the same for every one (a bunch of numbers and periods - does that make sense to you bl4?) and if they haven't changed their password, you can change it and essentially lock them out.

Yeah, many of them are very simple like 192.168.1.1 or some variant of that (maybe the last number changes). You essentially could lock them out of their router if you were a dick. Even I have never done that to anyone!
