Angry The SPIN has Begun for ENHANCE !!

I used to have high respect for Merck reps and I competed against you, didn't always win didn't always lose but I knew one thing the reps were ethical and stand-up. Merck used to have the highest ethical, scientific base from which to stand and look down on the rest of Pharma (especially Pfizer) for just being "MARKETERS", looks like that Moral high ground is starting to shift. I use as examples the disgraceful coverup and minimalization of the VIGOR data and APPROVE data and NOW ---- ENHANCE.

It appears that the Primary Endpoint of the Trial will now be changed 2 YEARS after the completion of the TRIAL!! If you can pull this crap bag of wool over the doctors' eyes then the trial lawyers deserve everything they get from their dumbasses. Who changes the PE AFTER the trial is complete ?? Good lord I hate working in this ridiculous industry.

Thumbs down Re: The SPIN has Begun for ENHANCE !!

I worked for Merck years ago. That company is full of itself. Their pompous, retared managment and uppity reps...just not a nice place to work.

I love nothing more than reading about all of the Vioxx law suits. Funny, the company that preached "we never laid off employees" finally admitted to a lay off a while back.

The company is a joke.

Schering-Plough is a bigger joke! Merck never should have let them do the ENHANCE study. Now both are in trouble!!

I used to believe everything we did was for the better science but after getting blasted by a cardiologist today because the pfizer rep had just told her all about "Merck suppressing bad data for Vytorin to milk more $$ out of the drug before the truth is released" I really just want to kick someone in the nuts for doing the damn study in the first place.
BTW since when has a coverup EVER been better than just telling the truth the first time? Answer=NEVER

Idiots in HQ don't mind sacrificing the reps' credibility who cares about the long term trust btwn dr. and rep anymore.

I think you meant say "most unethical" but since you are retarded you did not articulate your thought very clearly. Actaully, calling you a retard is an insult ------ to the Retards.

Steve Nissan says Merck owes it to the medical community to release the data. You remember what he did to Avandia? I would wait too long.

Happy Holidays!

In today's environment Merck will not pull this off. The days of spinning the data are over. If anything they will just try and make the data go away so as not to disrupt the current revenue stream. Changing the end point is not a good idea, ethically or politically.

I suggest you think again and while you are at it, look up the definition of sarcasm. Keep up the nice job of articulating but I'd also suggest you use greater care when using the terms retarded and retards. Consider the definition of ironic and I am sure you'll understand why.

and when lipitor goes generic, Zetia will be added to generic lipitor. like there is a need for another shitty product that is no better than the generic alone. ENHANCE has been such a disgrace. Wasn't it supposed to come out in July? Oh wait, the data sucks. Don't release it. Maybe nobody will notice. Oh, there are people asking about it. Let's lie to the public and tell them the study is still blinded and we have a lot of data to sort through. Tell them that the data will be released in March 2008 and maybe we will think of something better by then. Yeh, that's the ticket. Vytorin and Zetia are shit. The reps are shit too. Merck and Schering Plough hire whipping boards that they can chew up and spit out. Make 10 calls a day or your gone. Sucks to be that rep with shit in a bag seeing the same offices 2 times a week. Lipitor is the better choice. Merck/Schering need to step up and admit that Vytorin is just a marketing ploy and that the entire industry is running out of ideas for blockbusters. Product going generic? No problem! Just add a branded product to it. Pfizer is doing that with there shitty Caduet, Merck with Vytorin, and the list goes on. That's it I'm done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Actually, Lipitor is NOT the 'better choice'. SIMCOR will be in 2008,.. HANdS DOWN !! See the COMPELL study. The 2000/40 beats EVERYTHING on LDL reduction, also has THE best outcomes data over any lipid therapy & modulates ALL risk factors in a positive direction; ESPECIALLY, HDL, HDL2, pattern size/density, Lp(a), etc. Get you Cordaptive/simvastatin combo approved & then you`ll have a lipid-competitor into the next decade.

CETP inhibitor approved,..??
Good luck with that. Thanx to Pfizer,.. Merck, Japan Tobacco/Roche and anyone else in that market will now need 2-3 years extra to achieve FDA approval,.. AFTER safety, efficacy & OUTCOME data.

I think they messed up by changing the primary endpoint. I don't buy the excuse that it is taking longer to read the films. Don't these people read films all the time? This is another black eye for the company.

What a joke...why would you not use something proven like Lipitor. You never want to roll the dice with medicine. This industry is a joke. How could you look at yourself in the mirror in the morning knowing that your giving a patient an inferior medicine. I know a vytorin rep who takes Lipitor.

TNT my friends. Nothing beats ol' lippy

AFREGS, government funded,.. > 60% reduction in hard events,.. no statin. LDL only dropped 21%. It was the HDL, Lp(a) & pattern shift from B to A.
just Like FATS, FATS 15 year follow-up [any 15 year data on a statin,..?] & HATS. 83% RRR, 95% RRR & 90%. NONE of those were with lipitor.
CARDS, miracles for NIDDM..? NOT.
<3% of all NIDDM`s have HDL`s @/> 55.
So,.. the CARDS data means ZERO.
CTT 20 year analysis of ALL statin mono-therapy trials; 90,000 patients. Average RRR ?
23%
Keep believing the LDL lie,.. RIF.
Reading Is Fundamental.

BTW

PS
HATS ? 3 years, gov`t funded. Outstanding p values for all parameters. Average lipid Rx dose,..? 13 mg simvastatin & 2 - 2.5 gms OTC niacin. 90% RRR. Amnalysis revealed no assoc. w tital-LDL change,.. rahter,.. HDL2 & pattern B to A shifts.
Largest % regression in any trial measured.

Let not your hearts be troubled! You have CETP inhibitor and Cordaptive and Cordaptive/Simvstatin combo coming soon. From what I see, Cordaptive should give Niaspan some tough competition. ENHANCE? Sounds like to don't like the data and are trying to find the best way to spin it. Why are you all so surprised by that?

I too worked for Merck years ago and ditto the sentiments above.

MRK is no different from a used car dealer - except MAYBE better dressed.

This company will tell any lie it can to save face.

YES, I would have worried more about competing with KOS / Niaspan, than Abbott / Niaspan.
They have the numbers but buried the expertise with the acquisition of KOS. Started with 450 KOS-Legacy reps November last year, now barely 30. 99% willingly ran for the hills.
Cordaptive will eat Niaspan for lunch, thanx in large part to Abbott`s culture of idiots,.. that`s Darwin in 'motion'.
85% of all lipid disorders can be FULLY carrected [RE: Even subfractions, VAP/GGE/NMR] with Cordaptive/simvastatin dose adjustment.
Add NKO Neptune Biotech/krill oil, [check out the stock alnalysts on that one] for elevated Trigs > 250.
No need for more potent statin,...
No need for fibrate.

Schering, Merck shares fall on congressional probe
Wed Dec 12, 2007 1:07pm EST

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Shares of Schering-Plough Corp (SGP.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and Merck & Co (MRK.N: Quote, Profile, Research) were down on Wednesday after U.S. lawmakers said they would look into allegations that the drugmakers were withholding data from a study of their shared cholesterol medicine Vytorin.

On a day in which the broader stock market was sharply higher and the American Stock Exchange Pharmaceutical Index was up about 1 percent, Schering-Plough fell as much as 6.3 percent before trimming the losses. Merck shares were off 1.2 percent.

Schering is far more dependent on revenue from the cholesterol drugs it shares with Merck than is Merck, which has several strong sellers in other therapeutic areas.

Rep. John Dingell, chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Rep. Bart Stupak, Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, on Tuesday requested information from the companies related to a delay in release of complete data from a clinical trial that ended in April 2006.

Vytorin combines Merck's widely used cholesterol drug Zocor, which is now available generically, with Zetia, a cholesterol medicine that works via a different mechanism and is also sold through a joint venture of the two drugmakers.

The study, called Enhance, tested Vytorin against Zocor in patients with a genetic predisposition to dangerously high cholesterol levels.

GENERIC COMPETITION

The companies aim to show that Vytorin is superior to Zocor alone by demonstrating plaque regression and enhanced cholesterol lowering, in a bid to fend off competition from generic Zocor, sold as simvastatin.

The companies plan to release the data once it is fully analyzed at a major medical meeting in March.

Dingell and Stupak raised concern that the companies changed the trial's primary endpoint -- its main objective.

Morgan Stanley analyst Jami Rubin called the Schering-Plough sell-off "overdone" and recommended buying shares on the weakness triggered by reports of the Congressional probe.

Goldman Sachs analyst James Kelly said he does not expect an important change in company fundamentals even if the study fails to produce positive results.

"In the unlikely scenario that adding Zetia causes harm, that would be a negative," Kelly said in a research note.

But, Kelly noted, "questions about disclosure of negative results in the pharmaceutical industry is a separate matter, and an area where the industry is still under intense scrutiny."

Schering-Plough shares were down $1.35, or 4.7 percent, to $27.65 on the New York Stock Exchange after slipping as low as $27.18 earlier in the day. Merck shares were off 71 cents to $59.69, also on the NYSE.
